After almost six years of planning and practice, and after almost nine months of attempts, I've finally finished my no death single segment run through Halo: Combat Evolved, on Legendary skill. For those that may be unfamiliar with speedrunning or Halo, to sum this run up simply, I ran through the entire campaign, on the highest difficulty, in one sitting, and didn't die once. Cody Miller was the first to do this in Halo 2, and for the longest time people have been asking about a no death run of Halo CE. Well, here it is! I'm very proud to have finished it, and to have the run clock under 2 hours is a huge milestone for me. Especially after the massive fail at the end of The Maw. That was brutal, but the recovery was nice =D Originally my route through the game was very safe, and over the years as I've gotten better at Halo, I've made hundreds of adjustments to this route, getting more and more aggressive. As such, this route is a lot more risky than you would think. There's still a fair number of safe strategies used, but the combat and the tricks utilized should be very surprising and entertaining to watch.
it's amazing how speedruns work.
what was he thinking when he did that twirl on the maw?
what was he thinking when he did that twirl on the maw?
What time is that at in the video?
Not sure but I'm pretty sure The Maw is the very last mission. The dramatic escaping driving through the ship as it explodes.
I think we need a speedrun thread, I love watching games from my childhood being ripped apart to go the fastest.

Oh we def. have one, could use more contributors if possible.
We have one but I think it's buried a few pages back.
Oh thanks, I haven't seen it.
I wonder how many attempts he made at this where he died at the very last moments
That twirl at the end took some precious time off. But damn, that's impressive.
That twirl at the end. Damn hes risky
That twirl at the end. Damn hes risky
It looks like he was trying to prevent that very thing from happening with that spin. If you put a spin on the hog as it drives off a ledge, you can keep it a bit more level when it hits the ground, assuming the ground is level enough for it to matter.

Even though the ramp is there to prevent that, I think hog still can overshoot and land at the near bottom and tip over.
Halo 1 is so timeless. I need to replay it.
At 2:03:15. Is that master chief without the helmet? Like why is his head that black? Is it his hair?
I believe the twirl is to prevent falling damage as well, since it happened to me plenty of time that I went off the ramp, only to die before hitting the ground because there was too much freefall and the game saw that as a reason to activate instant falling death. For some reason doing a 360 in midair seems to prevent this.
At 2:03:15. Is that master chief without the helmet? Like why is his head that black? Is it his hair?
yeah he just took it off for the duration of that jump
That's crazy. I died so much on legendary. I still think the HL2 speedrun is the best, I love how skilled these guys can be.
That's crazy. I died so much on legendary. I still think the HL2 speedrun is the best, I love how skilled these guys can be.
Halo 2's legendary is slated as the hardest one in the entire Halo series.
It's a shame there's nothing like trickjumping or ABH or diagonal running or something like that in this game - I think speedruns get kind of boring to watch if all it is is playing the game slightly faster (with a grenade jump here and there). Kudos to him though - I just think it's way more impressive than it looks.
Without the twirl I'm pretty sure the warthog just nose dives. [editline]2nd October 2013[/editline]
Halo 2's legendary is slated as the hardest one in the entire Halo series.
Probably because of the one hit kill jackal snipers.
It's hard to believe Halo:CE's been around for so long, for being 12 years old, it's aged incredibly well.
Jesus christ..
what was he thinking when he did that twirl on the maw?
That jump is really tricky and almost always killed me when I was a kid, what he did was really clever since he landed right above the height you need to fall to die.
It was nice. Sadly, the runner hasn't topped his segmented run record (1:20:51). Also I want to see it done on PC version. It would be more interesting since Gearbox really buffed the difficulty.
Probably because of the one hit kill jackal snipers.
To me the Jackals were not as hard as the amount of enemies in the last levels. High Charity in particular. Brutes were... brutal. I got to High Charity in about a week, took me another week to do the last 4 levels.
This is it baby... Hold me.
It's hard to believe Halo:CE's been around for so long, for being 12 years old, it's aged incredibly well.
Mainly because a lot of mainstream games are still ripping it off and haven't moved on.
