I'm amazed he didn't touch on the almost always non functional boycotts people always try to parade around when a company does shit stuff.
These are the reasons why I refuse to buy any game from a company I don't respect.

I wish more people did this.

It's surpisingly difficult to convince people to not spend money on a broken product.
At least in Blizzard's case (And I hate defending that greedy money hungry sham of a company) they fixed the game. Diablo 3 is more fun to play now than it ever was, even just before or without the expansion it was changed to be a completely different game, and better for it for the players
And it got better almost immediately after that idiot was fired, too
In Diablo 3's defense, they switched game directors from someone who didn't care that much to someone who cared a fuckload.
I've never bought any games from EA, Blizzard, Activision, or Ubisoft, since they started doing bad shit. I aint supporting their crap DRM bullfucks, or broken releases that aren't fixed until a year later.
Well, with one exception. I did purchase Mirrors Edge, but that was a pretty good game too. Other than that, I aint touching any of their stuff, which is also why I don't have any XBox or PlayStation consoles.
The problem is getting people to realize that they CAN shift the market by paying for what is good, and resenting and not paying or playing what is bad. Even a torrent may be seen as "this works so we'll keep doing it", so don't even touch it.

Every game like this I tried to convince my little brother not to buy he ended up buying, when I gave up and just said whatever he stopped, except for Watch_Dogs™ for some reason.

Also, I'm not sure I agree with what Jim says here: the reason these triple A games are sucessful is because they're not bought by gamers who but up with all this shit and know better, they're bought by the type of person that owns a console but doesn't give a shit about games and buys game you see on a billboard or at the bus stop hence EA, Ubisoft and to a lesser exttent Activision games. Of course these people don't know the shit EA and Ubi are pulling is bad and they don't see these disgusting fake apologies, so Jim is sort of right, but in my opinion these apologies are more rubbing in our face that they don't care because their games are not made for gamers any more.
I don't really care which company publishes a game. I decide on a game by game basis if I'm okay with what they are doing. I bought Titanfall because they promised free gameplay changes and only charging for maps which is exactly what happened. I didn't buy BF4 because it was broken as fuck and nickel and diming the fuck out of their own customers. I bought Dishonored+most DLC because it's a great game, but didn't get Elder Scrolls Online because it's an obvious cash in on Skyrim's success. These companies are huge and doing good and bad stuff at the same time. No reason to boycott good games IMO.

Yeah, that's how I feel. If you decide to boycott a company, you risk missing out on some really good games.
And in Ubisoft's case they recently released Valiant Hearts: The Great War, which was a fantastic game by them.
yeah lets freak out about BF4, its not like DICE felt fucking awful releasing its when it was broken and have been pulling out patches and even a community test environment for people to try out patches and give feedback to them. Jesus christ if you even own the game and played it past the first month or two, all you see on the front page of the battlelog is talks about fixing the game and rewarding the community.
mainstream modern gaming, nearly all of the games associated with it, the experience itself,
why not just buy a throbbingly thick dildo and shove it up your asshole for a similar, and perhaps an even more consistent, familiar feeling

Releasing a broken game is unacceptable no matter how bad you feel about doing it. Besides, I'm pretty sure EA is to blame for that, not DICE, and they're the ones being targeted here.

I guess then every developer has been shamed because, especically for PC games, patches have always been a thing.

Not every game launches broken/unplayable.

Boycotting isn't necessary. All you need to do is wait until you know a game is good before you buy it, which is what people really ought to be doing anyway.
These are the reasons why I refuse to buy any game from a company I don't respect.
why not cut out the middle man and not buy any games
I'm glad to see this whole thing has been getting a little awareness lately.

DICE is not innocent here. The Frostbite engine has been so broken since Bad Company. The hitboxes lag even when you're playing singleplayer. Been a known problem, and to call BF4 'too ambitious' really does leave a bad taste in my mouth. It's a slap in the face Their engine is shit and a big part of me feels like the only reason they are making the huge effort with the CTE and stuff is because they've got a new game coming out at the end of this year and the new Star Wars Battlefront on the same broken shit.

What are you even talking about? hitboxes are hitboxes unless there's rubber banding. Rubber banding hasn't been nearly a problem since BF3&4's launch and rarely happens now that they've tuned the game. Im pretty sure its something on your end because on xbox BC2 had no problems of the sort.
To say frostbite as an engine is shit than you must be completely blind to how good games developed on it look compared to other engines.
I'm really on the fence with Jim as an entertainer.
He looks like a massive neckbeard and has some pretty neckbeardy views/videos, yet then you get videos like this that are just 100% fucking right on the nose undeniable couldn't be better. Bit like Yahtzee in that regard too, honestly.
It's surpisingly difficult to convince people to not spend money on a broken product.
As the great theologian and philosopher Ron White said, "You can't fix stupid.", and you can't. The only person you can convince not be a dumbass is yourself. What people do can only be brought to light or critiqued, bandwagoning directly is obnoxious anyway. Simply lead by example and when questioned, be succint and pithy, and go on your way.
When asked recently by a buddy at BW why I "hate Ubisoft", my simple response was "I buy and play games, not electronic commodities; when Ubisoft starts making games again, I might buy one".

They may have oversaturation, bloom so thick you can beat a hooker to death with it, and enough color-graded ultra grain post processing to hide the hooker's body in after, but what they've never had is accurate collision detection, netcode and packet resolving up to the standards of 2002, or a physics and animation framework implementation that didn't accurately replicate life on the moon, much less registering motion and position faster than 15FPS.
Everybody has pretty engine or access to one cheap now, graphics really don't mean shit anymore.

Here's what I'm talking about. This isn't the best video on it, but there are several videos out there. It's a bug within the frostbite engine itself where the hitbox does not line up with the character model. That's why it seems to happen so often in battlefield that you shoot someone, can see the bullet make contact, the character flinch and blood flies everywhere, but you get no hitmarker and the damage is not counted. It might seem like a network glitch, but this is single player no network no latency involved. The problem is simply compounded by the issues with the so-called 'netcode'.
I'm not denying that Frostbite looks good. It looks great and the artists that worked on this game are extremely under appreciated due to how broken it is, but I'm not shelling out another $60 for this pap.
Here's some examples of BC2 hitbox glitches. There's one video where two players with shotguns start out facing one another and both strafe in the same direction while emptying their mags. On every shot, blood goes everywhere and the character flinches, but no damage is dealt. Can't find that one, but there are plenty of examples.

All instances. Shot goes in, blood comes out, character flinches, no hit marker.

Remember when FP boycotted CoD:MW2 and there was a steam group and on release everyone in the fucking group was playing CoD:MW2. And then people defended themselves with shit like "but I wanna play with my friends and they all have the game!!!".
Same thing happened with L4D2.

Looks like any other game engine to me.

You literally just proved my point, firing range isnt SP at all. you create a server for you alone and this is from march 22. netcode patch came out in June 3rd that resolved the massive lag between hit registration:

most people who play BF4 now say how much smoother it feels and you can definitely feel it especially when the hardline beta came out on the old patch and changed to the new patch.
BC2 was on the old netcode system aka 10 tickrate while BF4 is now at 30.
I like Battlefield 4 and have liked it since it came out. I still play Battlefield 4 and the netcode has indeed gotten significantly better. However, I still have a lot of problems with the Frostbite engine. I don't like the way it feels, I don't like all the little quirks it comes with, and I've said this before.
I have a strong personal distaste for it. Frostbite is very good at looking good, but no game I've ever played on it has felt as good to play or control as older DICE games. There's a lot of hard to describe nuances and problems with Frostbite that have been common to literally every Frostbite game I've played from Battlefield to Need for Speed and that's without getting into the atrocious netcode that every Frostbite game has shared.
It's something about the physics and the way it handles movement in the world. It never feels as crisp as older games and vehicle physics are extremely glitchy and just pain weird compared to the old Refactor engine.

I'm also not denying that the CTE fixes make the game infinitely better. It just feels like too little too late when this has obviously been a problem since three games ago, with plenty people having paid 300 bucks for said line of games. You said BC2 didn't has these problems. 30 is still slow imo. Kill trades and desync still exist, albeit to a much smaller degree.
It's also hard to get excited about graphics when 'normal' games that come out nowadays just now look about as good as Crysis.
Publishers and the developers under them are corrupt to the point of evil. Indies resort to scams and broken games for quick cash. Even if things were to improve, what would really change? Slightly better written shooters? Netcode where desyncs happen only every two hours instead of ten minutes? Companies who instead say "our game will have issues at launch"? Be honest, when is the last time we had a truly great game release? 2000?
Gaming is a fundamentally flawed medium and maybe its time to pull the plug before it gets even worse, because it certainly is not going to get any better.
