TF2's not dead. I played it an entire weekend, and saw nothing different.
The only difference is that it's free to play now. That's why they're saying it's dead.

Once hats were added, what once was an intelligent and creative community, one any developer would kill for, slowly declined.

More like a Christening. The game is born again, So vibrant and full of new faces to demolish. Making it free to play did piss off a lot of people but who cares, This was the first act that valve did in a LONG time that wasn't for the money.

TF2 is not dead. The community is just bad now, it's not the worst though.
Whats he talking about the game was beginning to die so in order to keep players they made it free and added even more weapons. I don't see what the problem is. Sure I don't care about the hats either but it doesn't bother me.

It's the quality of the shit my friend. We "veterans" were introduced to cool and creative items with the name Valve written all over them. Back when they were busy with the Class updates (gamemodes, maps, weapons, hats, wacky background story) and thing. (so, we don't care about the stupid people, we care about the quality of stuff which has changed with the community involvement)
But oh then the mindless majority, whom didn't appreciate those things we got, started demanding for more with less, wanted to get into the development which they have no idea about. And Valve needed money, so yeah.. here we are.
I'd like TF2 better if it was only Valve items, with some community contributions that stand out exceptional in quality and innovation in design. The kinda stuff Valve used to make, remember?

free2play changed nothing.
except that the free players who might buy the real game get to support more (un)interesting community ideas that Valve have to let through because everyone likes it and will buy it.

The problem for me is that there's a ton of weapons that I'll never get because I know they're the only reason I'd ever play TF2 again, but I also know they're not worth the hours upon hours you have to spend to get them if you don't like what you have to do while you wait for them. I didn't even like achievement grinding, so spending hours doing something I find tedious just for an item that might make the game fun again for about 5 minutes is just terrible. Added to that is the fact that everyone else's inventory is constantly keeping up to date, so every time I come back I end up getting killed by a bunch of weapons that weren't there last time I played that I also will never get to use.
I actually enjoy TFC more than TF2 now [i]because[/i] of the fact that there's nothing you have to grind for. You have everything right from the start, and if you get bored you can take a break for awhile and it'll be the same way you left it last time you played it. I don't play TFC often, mind you, but I never get the feeling that I've fallen behind and will never catch up without doing something I don't want to do.
