Oh man. This guy again.
Larry Bundy is an odd one because I feel like his content is legitimately good, but so many things about his presentation are so grating to me that I have a hard time getting through 30 seconds of him. I start getting really uncomfortable, if you know what I mean.
His delivery is super weird - it's like he's trying to slow down his speech for maximum absorption and retention or something, but it ends up making his sentences super choppy and actually hard to follow, like there's a period between every four words. Something about that is incredibly jarring. Also, he seems to ham up his accent and inflection a lot? Or it could just be his accent, I can't tell. The editing throws me off too - he leaves a lot of empty space filled with footage and it's all very unnecessary, the footage shown during his voice is plenty enough and it makes it all feel like a drag
Also, Wadsworth Constant in full effect

The pacing of his speech and the pauses in the video are down to his history in TV. The accent is just his accent.

Yeah, I do that on purpose, and like Janus says it's from my TV days. I just find the type of YouTube video thatremovesallpausesfromavideosoitsonelongchainofwords incredibly obnoxious and the information doesn't sink in. Almost as much as people who mug the crama or "shouting = funneh".
As for hamming up my accent, yeah, it's a TV thing again, I was always taught to up the enthausism on VO's as there's nothing more draining than listening to a monotone voice droaning on for 15 minutes.
But some of the spaces inbetween sentences I say really do bug me too I agree, that's me being a smartass and trying to get clever with lyical words, then getting tongue tied or running out of breath, that IS something I've been trying to stop.
Holy shit Larry you're everywhere

He's been around here for a minute. It's nice to see him from time to time
also i've been listening to the Sonic R OST too much apparently because I recognized the song at the beginning immediately

I like your work
Keep it up man
Every thread people bitch about Larry and I just don't understand what there is to get upset over. I mean I have diagnosed add and I enjoy the length of his videos.
I feel terrible now that he's actually read my comment ;_; I'm sorry

I mean, its constructive criticism

I can see the criticism but honestly don't really mind any of it myself. Usually when I queue up one of his videos it's to have it play in the background while I do MMO stuff, so the length or pacing isn't really a problem, kinda' a plus actually in some ways...

I think it's less being upset and more criticism.

When a YouTuber replies to comments & critique here on FP, my respect for them increases quite a bit because it means they do give a damn.
Holy shit Larry you're everywhere
You have no idea how many times I've decided to look at the comments on a Youtube video and he's there. It's like one of the rare few good things about looking at the comments.

I think it's absolutely fine man. Anything you can do to set yourself apart from others is worth doing in your business. I have no idea why people are so off-put but your cadence, really makes no sense to me.
For the record I also love the countdown noise.

To add to this with my own thoughts, personally Guru Larry I'd rather someone tried to personalize their stuff and make themselves standout than be the same old John Youtuber v19856.0. There are plenty of people who take it too far and get dumb with it, but that takes becoming stale by trying VERY hard to add unneeded touch to an already good personality.
For this exact reason I actually generally enjoy Jim Sterlings very inane sketches. If he didn't try and add some flair he'd be a bit dull. Even if it does get a bit awkward at times, its still amusing and makes it unique and fun to watch.
Youtubers that have a distinctive personality just need to do their best to do what they do best.
Youtubers that have a distinctive personality just need to do their best to do what they do best.
Yeah, I should have specified anything you can do to set yourself apart with the talents and personality you actually have is something worth doing. And you're doing that just fine. Not saying someone looking to get into making youtube videos should just straight away start rubbing human shit on their wall to stand out. :v:
You remind me a lot of someone else, Guru Larry. You're like a British Classic Game Room. Mark and you have been doing this whole "talking about video games on camera" thing long before it became such a fucking massive 'industry', and yet, that massive industry developed largely completely independent of pioneers like you. That's why the way you do your work even now sounds so odd to the ears of people trained on more contemporary content. I've seen the exact same kinds of comments for CGR. They think it's boring, odd, etc, yet I like CGR a lot for that unique perspective. It doesn't get wrapped up in the soul-crushing nihilism and shitty hype culture lots of other gaming channels do - Mark seems like a genuine guy who truly enjoys video games, and you seem like a different branch from the same tree.
Oddly enough, I find videos of people who sound monotone like they are dead inside the most enjoyable to watch
I feel terrible now that he's actually read my comment ;_; I'm sorry
No need to apologize matey, It's all constructive criticism to me!!! :D Businesses pay millions to receive feedback on their ventures, So I've no idea why YouTubers get all thin skinned, abusive and swing the ban hammer around like Thor in a disco for any comments that less than 100% appraisal, it's all good information to me! :)
(also if you do let the criticism get to you, you just end up turning into Spoony or DarksydePhil :S)

Absolutely, I am trying to carve more a style of my own, such as like what froztshock said, you don't even need to be looking at the screen to watch my stuff for instance. I just don't want to jump on the endless pile of JonTron and AVGN clones out there.
When a YouTuber replies to comments & critique here on FP, my respect for them increases quite a bit because it means they do give a damn.
Bless you Sir, I just want to respond really I can't stand not replying to comments, it just feels rude after someone's taken the time out to watch a video you made.
I do have a new show in the works at the moment, it isn't cheap to make as you'll see why when it goes up, so I'm going to personally fund it for a while and see how it goes. But I am honestly amazed no one has actually made it before on YouTube.

You might want to layer takes for those sentences, allowing you to bugger up once or twice but remove the long pauses.
Lol that Tim Langdell
How obsessed with money does someone have to be to go from scummy copyright claimer to spirit healer/cult leader wannabe?
I'd watch Larry's content anytime. He's just a really cool dude overall, a lot of his videos are pretty well put together and he does bring a lot of interesting stuff to light like the late drama surrounding DRIV3R.
Sure he still makes mistakes but atleast he isn't Watchmojo or Planet Dolan; simply put, he's one of the much, much better "Top X" and retrospective channels out there.
