Ignore the name of the video, was the only YT link I could find of the whole interview.

I agree with his opinion completely. Not posting this to start some huge flame war, I'm just posting this due to his view being a really down-to-earth, non-talking-head explanation.
kurt russell is cool, so this is a big shame. the fact of the matter is that gun control works
you can come up with excuses all day long about 'only criminals will have guns' or 'people will make their own guns'
the fact of the matter is that we had a huge mass shooting in 1996. we outlawed guns, and it hasn't happened again in all the years since.
sorry america.
kurt's argument is that 'they can kill people with other things if we outlaw guns', which is true. of course anybody can kill anybody with anything
but guns make it 10x easier and more efficient to do so. and yes, they can make bombs. but making a bomb is a lot harder than getting a gun. and the harder something is, the riskier and longer it takes, and the more parts they have to source, which allows more time and more ways for them to be tracked and get caught.

you didnt have 330 million guns in your county lmao?

sure, let's not relate that to the size of our population or anything, and ignore the fact that it didn't just dwindle mass shootings. it (minus a few incidents were no more than 3-5 where killed, and very very few and far between) stopped them dead.
-edit/snip, don't want to start an argument-

i seriously doubt you had almost more guns than people in your country lol

so the solution to that is to keep adding to that already massive pile?
the notion that 'we already have too many so the more we add the safer we are!' is pretty insane
because like, how is that working out for you? pretty good huh?

yeah p. good
it's clear that something needs to be done. we just need to figure out a practical way of doing it, ie more extensive background checks. but no that's fascist/communist, even though the government already does so many more fucked up things. the hypocrisy really is pretty unbelievable and no one will face it
if we start requiring background checks people like my dad think they'll be put on some sort of government watchlist when FEMA comes around putting us in concentration camps :ok::ok:
outlawing them now wouldn't produce immediate results, no one is saying that, considering the volume of guns you already have.
but it would create a far better country in years to come. it's a long term solution, not a short one. it would pave the way toward a safer future. i think the knee jerk reaction to banning guns most americans have is incredibly short sighted.

If somebody wanted a gun bad enough, they could get one. It doesn't matter whether your country has banned guns, the illegal gun trade is huge and untraceable.
I'm fine with laws being implemented to make it harder to get a gun, but to completely take away my right to own a gun for self defense? Fuck that, man.
Usually when guns are involved in violent situations, it creates more death than when there aren't any. Just saiyan. :B
The way I see it, the problem isn't that gun control doesn't work, it's that it's too late for gun control to work in America specifically. In countries where the original laws of owning guns were different/stricter it was easier to enforce a gun ban because there wasn't as many guns already in "circulation". To try and ban guns in America now would be almost impossible.

i agree with you somewhat, but outlawing guns outright in america will never happen
The interviewer is kind of a prick. He keeps bringing up San Bernadino and Paris while at the same time blaming Hollywood and the white redneck part of gun culture. While the latter has its issues they weren't involved in Paris or San Bernadino...
i agree with you somewhat, but outlawing guns outright in america will never happen
It doesn't need to, nor does anybody really want that. The thing about guns in America isn't that we have them, it's that in most of the country they simply are not regulated. It's easier to get a gun than it is to get a car. To me that's kind of scary.
also russel sounds a bit like dsp

Gun deaths are still going down, and the majority of deaths from guns is a result of gang members killing each other and others get in the crossfire, and a small amount of mentally ill people. But nope outlaw it for hundreds of millions of people that have never hurt anyone and simply target shoot or hunt.

none even close to the one which caused us to outlaw them, and none even close to the ones america seems to have every week.

Like I said before, that's never gonna happen, nor does it need to.
Gun control isn't about outlawing guns, it's about keeping control over them. That's why it's called gun CONTROL.
When my girlfriend went to report her rifle as stolen, she was told by the FDA that they could not help her because there was no state registry of firearms in Kentucky. Thaaaaat scares me.

target shooting is a pretty bizarre 'sport'. i think you should find another hobby that doesn't involve weapons created to kill people with the most efficiency.

Nah my breddah. I support gun control but target shooting is way too fun to just get rid of. :U

target shooting is an olympic sport tho??

im still really on the fence about stuff like this. we go out to the range all the time but it irks me a bit when people talk about how they just use it for recreation/hunting. seems a bit trivial, as the right to bear arms was meant for more than just that and it's overall a rather poor excuse for owning something so powerful
but on the other hand people who vehemently believe that we need guns in case there's a revolution strike me as absolutely batshit in this day and age
target shooting is a pretty bizarre 'sport'. i think you should find another hobby that doesn't involve weapons created to kill people with the most efficiency.
Nah, I'm for having a basic license for guns and mandatory gun courses once a year, and a more extensive background check.
target shooting is a pretty bizarre 'sport'. i think you should find another hobby that doesn't involve weapons created to kill people with the most efficiency.
why? is there something inherently wrong with owning guns as a hobby?
why? is there something inherently wrong with owning guns as a hobby?
yeah, i think so. but it's so ingrained in americans to think that it's totally cool and normal. it's pretty bizarre to, like, most of the rest of the world. you don't need them. they're designed to kill. i am morally opposed to them.
target shooting is an olympic sport tho??
I think that's a shame too

When you buy a gun and fill out the background check, they call the NICS for them to run a check on you, plus the serial number on your weapon is federally registered.

Why does it irk you? Most people don't buy guns because they believe the government is about to initiate martial law....lmao.

Not everywhere in the country. This only happens where the state requires it, as unfortunately gun control is still up to state law. Hence why California is considered the "gun hating" state or whatever.
