I was pretty disappointed to see them skip nine centuries of music in a couple of seconds. They should have started directly with the 1910s because the first three songs didn't really add anything to the video.
nice to see the blues skipped completely in exchange for a nice rendition of "i want it that way" [editline]24th May 2013[/editline] this video makes me want to vomit

Didn't realize that most of the evolution music took place in the 2000's :v:
Pentatonix always impresses me, they are quite talented Their video with Lindsey Stirling is great.
Dear lord the bass in that guy's voice
Thanks for skipping the majority of genres. Which always happens in these videos.
Not really the "evolution of music" but well done nonetheless
It's a cool video but they glossed over 800 years of music at the start and spent way too much time on the 90s, 2000s and 2010s.
I did not like this. Mostly because I am not interested in the music they put in there. They did good but you see that shit a lot nowadays.
Miss leading title for that video.
so they went from medieval to pre-bach baroque to beethoven and that was it for classical. yeah okay debussy and stravinsky don't deserve to be degraded by this shit-ass video anyway [editline]24th May 2013[/editline] they skipped blues and gave like 5 seconds to early jazz, i think? this is the evolution of music as viewed by white people

It's by people who only listen to what's popular obviously. God damn man I had to start learning the guitar in order to find some awesome old progressive rock, frikking jazz, lots of blues and other types of music.
What idiots; they didn't even manage to address every single genre and every single generation of music of the past thousand years into a 5 minute youtube video. Shouldn't have even bothered.

The whole lot of you guys are. "THEY DIDN'T HAVE X IN THIS 4 MINUTE VIDEO THIS VIDEO IS JUST AWFUL" Music is something incredibly complex and intricate. Thousands of genres, millions of songs and these guys had about 4 minutes. They skipped over a HELL of a lot of genres than just Blues, there's no way they could include them all. And before you say something like how blues was SO influential, again i tell you there's no way they can include them all and included a lot of very influential songs and genres. Also you must realize these guys will obviously have more modern late 80's to now type songs as they're still relevant, meaning that people will respond better to them and watch the video. Oh but hold the FUCK UP they didn't have "Country Boy" by Muddy waters, this video is terrible. Their singing is awful and their music choice is awful because of their exclusion of something.
this is bullshit they could least started at 12 A.D
urgh, he sang "ba ba ba ba ba bamba"

Call it "Evolution of popular music" and then only the starting three don't make sense and should have been replaced with something like folk songs. Something like "100 Riffs (A Brief History of Rock N' Roll)" is a lot closer to actually representing history of music than this vague attempt to encompass music as a whole with a small set of pop songs. They could have just made a video called "Popular songs from the last few decades" or something, but don't claim it's the evolution of music. There was hardly any evolution at all in the second half of the video. They're talented and their video wasn't terrible but it just wasn't what they claimed it was.
it's not a detailed evolution of music but it's certainly shown how its evolved over the years. You guys are getting all angst and angry because it's not a 1:1 evolution of its history. Let's take "evolution of dance" for example, he started with a dance coined by Elvis Presley then danced various dances going from the mid 50's to early 2000's. Now i'm pretty sure dancing was around before Elvis Presley.

This is the evolution of music as viewed by people who cherry picked what they liked. I think they did a decent job (stop complaining about them skipping over hundreds of years worth of music, do you know how fucking long this video would be if they didn't leave out anything?), but I wish the black guy would actually sing instead of just beat boxing. It felt really out of place.
