Should have showed them pictures at the end of a fedora and trenchcoat clad neckbeard with a katana and daki and they would just go "...oh"
This video reminds of another video where a pair of Japanese "comedians" basically found an American weaboo living in Japan and was absolutely vicious towards him. Making fun of his Japanese, his appearance, and generally acting like snide pieces of shit. Anyone else know what video I'm talking about?

They call him an Otaku and make fun of him not wearing his shoes in the apartment corridor? His favourite anime is Neon Genesis Evangelion or something.
Afaik that whole thing was an act though
No kidding? I hope it was, I dislike bullying more than I dislike the idea of weaboos.

i love this video
I think he made the word seem pretty light. When I think of a weeaboo it's the people who have 'waifu pillows' and learn "japanese" from amines. You know, delusional freaks.
I explained to Japanese people what a weeaboo is in detail before They hated it and categorized them equally with their apartment dwelling otakus [editline]7th April 2016[/editline] but then again, don't weebs insist on calling themselves otakus? :v:
To be honest, the term weaboo seems to be thrown around fairly carelessly, so the word's kinda' lost its meaning for me.
To be honest, the term weaboo seems to be thrown around fairly carelessly, so the word's kinda' lost its meaning for me.
It's used to essentially label anyone who enjoys japanese animation/manga, to group them in with people with no social awareness that run around with half-nude characters on dakimakuras in public. I don't mind people who enjoy things that other people think are weird, and I don't think most other people really mind them either. It's the ones that try to make it part of their public identity that deserve such labels.
While people who are overly obsessed with anime and manga are very obnoxious to deal with, I don't believe it's appropriate to call them "weeaboos", because those same people can have an appreciation for other cultures as well. I'd call a real weeb someone who is obsessed with Japan to the point where they disrespect any other culture, unintentionally including the Japanese themselves. The kind of guys who believe Asians are the master race, Japan is the master nation, Pearl Harbor and the Rape of Nanking was justified (these people exist). Not to mention that they kind of fetishize them as if they aren't human beings. I understand why anime is linked with being a weeb, since it can act as a gateway into that kind of behavior. I mean, this isn't exclusive to the Japanese culture. I know a lot of black people who try so hard to be white it's almost insulting to white people. I mean, if I where a white person in this day and age who is trying not to be labeled as a "racist bigot", I wouldn't want someone coming up to me rambling on about how they hate black people and everything related to them in a sad attempt to appease me. I could ramble on about this subject because of my experiences with these kinds of people.

If they knew what weeaboos were really, they probably wouldn't like them. The way they act annoy most, and probably could damage Japan's image. Who'd want to try to experience Japanese culture when Weeaboo Jones is shoving "the superior culture" down their throat? I don't mind people who watch anime, read mangas, or own a dozen waifu figures, if it makes them happy then let them be. I even watched a few animes, read manga, etc. because they're entertaining, and because of that I've grown to respect the Japanese culture. But for someone to disrespect their own country/culture and others and pretend to be part of some "master culture" to the point were they're hostile is plain disrespectful to said culture and just shameful. And very awkward.
I wonder what they think of Ouiaboos
If they saw pictures, I'm sure they would change their opinion on them right quick.
I think even though weeaboo is a term that lost all meaning nowadays, I think it's more of a lighter term for people obsessed with anime. I guess weeaboo would be being more obsessed with just anime, than otaku who are obsessed with Japan and think it's the greatest country in the world and yada yada yada. But that's just how I look at it. I think it's still stupid that it gets thrown around to anyone who likes anime stuff. I mean I like anime, but that doesn't mean I just throw it out casually in public. People who 'self-identify' as weebs and otaku are just awful in every way.
I guess weeaboo would be being more obsessed with just anime, than otaku who are obsessed with Japan and think it's the greatest country in the world and yada yada yada.
you're getting all of this mixed up. a weeaboo is a person who loves japan and everything about it, mainly anime. a weeaboo ignores their own culture and attempts to be japanese despite them not actually japanese. that's why the term "weeaboo" is partly derived from the term "wanna-be" (in this context, a japanese wanna-be). however, "otaku" is literally a japanese term that refers to those who have obsessive interests.
I sure that there is a minority of people who are a lot more into the culture than anyting else That's what I think with all the cards on the table
dunno, around where I live (LA), the majority I've met were pretty cringy hardcore weeaboos I certainly wouldn't brand people who have a healthy hobby of watching anime as a weeaboo, but the ones I've met were usually unkempt, socially awkward and would only talk about Japanese culture and anime related things and nothing else - it was pretty hard for me to socialize with them
No kidding? The closest it gets to how the video portrays them is when they suggest he shouldn't spend so much of his parents' money on his hobbies, but it's more of an "I'm concerned about your situation" suggestion than anything.
a lot of people are really not aware of the connotations that come with that word
Yes and no - I've seen guys straight up call themselves otaku when they acknowledge the general meaning with connotation ("I may be a anime loving nerd with no other interests besides anime, but at least I'm an otaku and not a weeaboo!") and people who just call themselves otaku without acknowledging the full connotation but the general meaning of the word (anime nerd/enthusiast)
I hate people who sling the word around nonsensically. Its annoying. I like anime and shit but I don't think that Japan is the "Master culture."
Maybe it's time Americans are introduced to Rawhide Kobayashi.
i went to japan way more weebish than i came back. they've got some cool temples you can smoke in some arcades which are both things i didn't expect to appreciate as much as i did [editline]7th April 2016[/editline] also their instant ramen and sport drinks are way better than ours. i miss UFO ramen and pocari sweat
To be honest, the term weaboo seems to be thrown around fairly carelessly, so the word's kinda' lost its meaning for me.
That's the whole point. A word loses it's power when it's used so much and people become desensitized by it. When a community takes in a word previously used to demean them, it becomes empowering instead. Most people I know as hardcore 'weebs' honestly wholeheartedly take in the word with pride. It's kind of like how 'gay' used to be a slur and now we're slowly starting to see 'fag' also lose it's strength as an insult for how often it's used as a joke on the internet.
These people need Papa Franku to show them what a real weeaboo is.
Personally I dislike Japanese culture for being racist sexist and xenophobic. But I do not dislike Japanese people or those who do like the culture, nor do I make fun of them for it. Why cares what people are into as long as its legal and does not cause harm to themselves or others? Generalizing and disliking entire groups of people seems...archaic.
