The ampersand messes up the YouTube embed. Put
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtPdKjkcZCU
between the tags instead.
Hey, thanks!
Comments disabled. Wouldn't want to imagine what kind of shitstorm this created. Good on him though.
"Oh man, the Republican/Democrat Party really screwed me! Next time I'm voting Democrat/Republican."
He was noticeably reading from the teleprompter beneath the camera, kinda distracting.
Hey look a judge from a small city, not even the judge of the county he's in. Good ole spread out Texas is making a difference for the gays and minorities.
We have a judge here who got all 5 party nominations. Judges shouldn't be based on party at all. The law is the law, party doesn't change law
We have a judge here who got all 5 party nominations. Judges shouldn't be based on party at all. The law is the law, party doesn't change law
I'm not keen on advocating judges fronting a specific political party, however "the law" isnt' an autonomous set of rules set in stone, never to be changed. Administration and legislation are intertwined, and The Law is usually altered on background of political/ideological activity. A highly important mechanic, unless you're still down for racial segregation or for women to be denied the right to vote.
Seems like a good move on his part. Although I cringed a little when he said "who you choose to love". Although I think that's probably just a poor choice of words.
As a Texan I'm proud to witness this state changing. I think popular vote is the best thing that can happen to the country, but big states like Texas swinging both ways is alot better than completely red and democrats losing their votes completely.
I never understood why judges were elected. I think they should be appointed from a higher executive. Elections (at least in the world today) are wholly political affairs, and the law should not be bent or changed to fit a political dogma.
