In hindsight I'm pissed that the game we got pretty much shackled us with a character who felt like nothing more than Ken Levine's Mary Sue. If only she were just some love interest or just not in the game at all. Just keep it to Bioshock in the Sky, and I would be happy as fuck. Also we never got any thing interesting with Tears. No crazy Music tears, or even full on Visual tears, like Communist Columbia, or even Columbia under Nazi support/occupation. Least we got a nice city. Not that we can explore it or anything.

They managed to turn an interesting concept into a mess in terms of writing and a contrivance that awkwardly sews together the plot.
"bioshock is all about giving the player a ton of tools and a ton of options and letting them go to town" thats exactly what infinite didn't do in comparison to the previous two games
game's only saving grace was that it's pretty sometimes
Infinite was still a perfectly fine game (outside of that one damn boss). It wasn't as dull as Waist High Man Shoots: Part 4: Resurgence. It was lacking in some areas, particularly the ones in the video like the usage of tears and the Skylines. But not enough to make it a bad game by any stretch of the definition. The tears could totally have seen more use in combat, what we got wasn't far off what Levine had in mind with the vertical slices presented. But it wasn't as dynamic (e.x. that cart that they tear in that fucks dudes up), and was largely just an easier way to get some ammo at times or bring in a shortcut to higher ground. And the Skylines were severely toned down in importance. They were a bit weird to get used to in combat, but the few times you could actually zip around on them in a fight arena was actually pretty fun. Quite a nice mix-up from hiding behind things for a bit. A damn fine escort mission. Because at least Elizabeth would try to fix your ass when you get fucked up.
I thought the city was way more interesting than the wibbly wobbly Sliders nonsense.
game's only saving grace was that it's pretty sometimes
I remember Facepunch going ape-shit about how well the story was written and how there were hints and foreshadowing all the way through. And now everybody dislikes it. The only thing that I really disliked in the game was the combat. The story, atmosphere and characters were really good imo.
I never quite understood the hate it got. I enjoyed it for both gameplay and story
Infinite was a bit of a letdown for me. The atmosphere of Colombia was alright, nothing on Rapture, although saying that, they're completely different places. Infinite also appeared to be more about gunplay than narrative or atmosphere.
I never quite understood the hate it got. I enjoyed it for both gameplay and story
half of it is because everyone just loves reposting "the average bioshock player" video and ripping on that stupid bell ringing scene
The second expansion was by far my favourite entry in the entire series

It's just sort of in my nature to be a critic about things. I didn't really hate Infinite, but with Adam Sessler giving it a 5 star praise like it's a golden goose egg to gaming as a whole, only to play it and get a fairly average shooter with an interesting but woefully underexplored setting and a plot that sort of falls apart when I went over it all again, it left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't regret the purchase, but then it helps that I got XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and the first two Bioshocks with the deal.
At least its not bad as ubisoft's promises vs what they deliver.
"bioshock is all about giving the player a ton of tools and a ton of options and letting them go to town"
never felt bioshock was a game that gave "tons of tools and options", i mean to all 3 games. a game that gives tons of tools and options is something like deus ex.
Theres a lot more recoil on some guns. Also i did notice that a lot of segments were cut out of the game. The finished game looks more like a painting w/o any actualy carts/trailers moving or stuff exploding. TBH that build in the trailer looks actualy a lot harder to me. I would have loved a mix in them. Also litte stuff like this makes the game more appealing to me @3m20s >> 4m40s Also i would love a HD screenshot of this [t]http://i.imgur.com/Gt62CRM.jpg[/t]
Infinite would have been better without so much of the whole reality jumping, imo that took too much away from the characters and the city.
This doesn't really look that much more interesting than the final product imo
This is the only Bioshock game I've played and I really enjoyed it. I agree that tears could of been used much more and could of provided different insights of Columbia and Comstock or Fitzroy. Same with the skylines tbh.
is there any other industry which is so full of shit as the video game industry is?
is there any other industry which is so full of shit as the video game industry is?
games drastically change during development sometimes, theres a difference between that and trying to make shit appear to not be shit near release like with NMS or something
is there any other industry which is so full of shit as the video game industry is?
It seems like it's only the video game industry, sure, but that's because it's the most prominent on this forum and (I assume) your interests. If you were to pay the same attention to you do other industries as you do this one, you'd see that they're all shit. All of them. Every single one. Just entertainment alone makes it very clear - comic books, film, television, books, theater. It's all bad equally bad. On top of that, this is just an example of iterative design changing the product. They weren't "lying" when they showed the pre-release content, because at the time that's what the game was. But for whatever reason, it became something else.
incredibly gorgeous game with a very rich and detailed artstyle and gameworld, but has such a pretentious depth bullshit story and is gameplay wise for the most part an absolute downgrade in every way compared to bio1 and bio2
I've seen a lot of people complain that the story is pretentious but I just don't see it, and I've played the game start to finish 4 times now. I found it interesting, (mostly) well paced, and I really liked the ending and the way it tied things together. Certainly wasn't perfect and there's things I would change or outright get rid of (was the Siren fight necessary to either story or gameplay? I don't think so), but none of it bothered me enough to consider it a major problem.
Everything about the earlier versions of the game seems just better, especially telekinesis and the greater emphasis on the rails. There's like 5 sections in the final game that use them extensively or something?
It's a damn shame I found this game to be bad in my opinion, I think it had loads of potential.
This game was actually the last time I fell for the AAA ruse. So, in that way I'm grateful the game amounted to what it did.
Infinite would have been better without so much of the whole reality jumping, imo that took too much away from the characters and the city.
This is how I feel. Felt like the second half made the setting pointless.
Imagine a Bioshock game where there's virtually little to no boss fights, no hacking minigame, no quicksaving, no stocking up on health kits, little exploration, only 2 weapons at your disposable at every time, and has only 1 ending. That's why I don't consider this game an addition to the series. It doesn't feel like Bioshock and doesn't really expand upon the foundation Bioshock has established with the previous games. Even with the plasmids, Infinite was just super boring imo and just felt like another generic shooter. Really the only thing I liked about Infinite was the Burial at Sea DLC, which really says something about the main game.
"bioshock is all about giving the player a ton of tools and a ton of options and letting them go to town" thats exactly what infinite didn't do in comparison to the previous two games
first two games gave you tons of tools and options and let me go to town? Say what?
I liked it but that dlc has to be one of the worst cash grabs in history. The only nice part was seeing Suchong die. That Jack Ryan model is unforgivable.
