Posting in a separate thread cause I feel this needs to be seen
I'm glad he took the time to clarify his stance, and is cognizant of how poorly he handled the debate.
It was good to get some clarification. I watched the stream, and while there was a few sentences (or a lot?) from JonTron that without a doubt could be put in the spotlight as "wrong", or any other negative tag you might think of, this clarification does prove what I thought the entire time. The discussion was not proper. It felt, at most times, like watching classic modern political debates where nothing is solved and mud is thrown across the board.
i'm glad he's going to stop trying to talk about this shit.
Jon made the classic mistake of ever talking with this Destiny fellow in the first place. I'm hoping he learns not to do stuff like this ever again.

I think that's the exact opposite of what he wants. You don't learn and grow from not talking to people.

If he talks with someone again, he should talk with someone willing to understand him that makes him clarify what he's meaning, so it doesn't sound more bad than he meant to. But he should stay out of it for now.

better idea, debate people, but just dont livestream it.

Destiny didn't force him to talk about the genepool. What Jon said was what Jon said, not what Destiny made him say.
It's unfortunate that he didn't clarify in the video what some of his more infamous quotes actually meant, though.

I don't see any reason to give JonTron magical benefit of the doubt above anyone else. I don't have to forgive him or embrace his content again just because he clarifies why he said that black people are genetically predisposed to a life of crime and shouldn't be integrated into the gene pool.
It feels like people are looking for an excuse to forgive or excuse him so they can watch his videos without guilt.

oh, and don't forget about preventing the death of the White Race at the hands of the inferior minorities

I can watch his videos without guilt regardless? He has bad, misinformed, and ill-expressed opinions, but his videos make me laugh. I'm going to continue watching him regardless of your petty little guilt trip.
Him coming out and at least trying to explain what he meant is a lot better than doubling down and continuing with that line of thought.

Honestly, silence would've been the worse option. I'm glad he had the courage to make a statement regarding this whole debacle considering the reactions towards him, but it's not going to remove the impression that it made on people. I said this in the other thread, that once you talk politics, you're going to split your audience no matter how "good" or "bad" your political stance is, it's always a bad idea unless you're personally willing to discuss politics.
imagine if politicians could handle being called out for speaking poorly this well
I don't think he's a bad person, but it doesn't really seem he learned from this or at least he refuses to acknowledge that some of the stuff he said was non factual and pretty disgusting. He doesn't actually admit fault for what he said, somehow it's not his fault he said that stuff or it is somewhat misconstrued. I'm glad he's made this video with more reasonable points but I don't see how some of the previous points he made were just interpreted badly by everyone. Nobody forced him to go on that stream, and it's his own fault he didn't research. I will still watch his content but I hope he does actually prepare the next time he decides to throw himself into a debate. We're all just humans, but when you go throwing around stuff to a whole load of impressionable minds it needs to be well researched.
He literally cited a bullshit statistic then has the gall to say that people didn't like it because it made them "uncomfortable". Is this for real?
Here's how to be a successful youtuber.
First, no politics. Ever. Having "wrong" opinions will halve your potential follower count because people can't put differences aside.
Second, NO POLITICS.
I don't know. All he did was dig out his main agenda from under all the trash he said. An agenda that I never had a problem with. (fuck people who think racism against whites is not an issue because "slavery in America" or some shit, also the fact that immigration is handled poorly pretty much everywhere)
But the trash still happened, and he did not address it in any way. Those are the comments that people got angry over, not things that should be common sense.
He sort of did address the trash by saying people took a lot of things out of the debate that were not intended/not well said. While I don't think that redeems them, at least he's acknowledged his fault here.

He was not "wrong". He said shit that was wrong, that is against established facts, and that cannot be misconstrued as anything but discriminatory. It's not "wrong", it's wrong, no scare quotes.
Second, politics have a place in Youtube, otherwise Sargon of Akkad wouldn't be a thing now would it? But it's pretty clear JonTron's audience, who are staying for the funny videogame videos, have no interest in hearing him dabble in politics. Plus he clearly doesn't seem able to articulate his political views well enough without coming off like a radical.
I do think this apology could have been better as he kind of glossed over/downplayed the more controversial stuff. However it certainly could have been worse (ex: doubling down on the white nationalist/alt-right bullshit). At least he acknowledges that he isn't really good at debating and that he'll keep away from the political stuff for the time being. Though even if he made the "perfect" apology some people would refuse to forgive him. Hopefully it means this shit will blow over or at least die down a little bit.
This really doesn't convince me.
"I said a lot of stuff that could be misconstrued." Like... "Rich blacks commit more crimes than poor whites." That's seems pretty unambiguous to me.
"These days we're taught to think in racial or ethnic categories... and this has played a big hand in what has gotten our country into the volatile state it is in." But it's pretty obvious from this video and the stream that he himself clearly thinks in ethnic categories and is concerned about "unfair" treatment of white race.

But didn't Destiny try to make Jon clarify what he meant a lot of times, only to be met with something vague?
He should talk to destiny again on or off stream imo
But didn't Destiny try to make Jon clarify what he meant a lot of times, only to be met with something vague?
And fuck, just watch the classic "they'll enter the gene pool" moment. Destiny quite literally asked if perfect assimilation were to occur, would everything be okay? That was quite literally giving jontron an easy out. And then jontron responded with his legendary statement.
This video was pretty shit. If he truly believes what he believes in he shouldn't retreat from engaging in politics, he needs to better articulate it and prove what he knows to be true, either that, or actually relenting and saying "okay, I was wrong on x y z." Of course, next time he does engage in something political it'll probably be him in a safe space live stream with someone like sargon of akkad instead of somebody willing to challenge him.
Everything he said in that debate sounded like there was an underlying implication that it is because of race why certain things are the way they are, only that he was "smart enough" to never explicitly say that. Looking at the things Jon said, there is no way around that he believes the causes of the things they talked about lie in race.
It's also annoying to hear people say that Destiny "used tricks to make Jon sound racist" or some bullshit like that. That never happened. Jon made half-explained inflammatory statements. Meanwhile Destiny made one well informed argument after the other.
[editline]a[/editline]
And the comment section is just pure cancer. Yes, those EVIL "SJWs" trying to make Jon look bad and racist!!
He should talk to destiny again on or off stream imo
Never again, please.
While definitely, Destiny wasn't what made Jon said what he said, he's still nothing more than a toxic influence on him.

How so?
How so?
Dude is very impulsive and prone to either being passive aggressive or outright aggressive.
This is, ultimately a non-apology to me tbh. I'm glad he addressed what happened but it still seems insincere. Or like it's one of those situations where they're not really sorry, they're just sorry that they got caught.
I don't care if people watch his videos tbh, but I'm still not interested in either him or his content anymore.

That is true for his twitter presence, and often on his stream. And it's been like that since SC2.
But he didn't really do that during his jontron talk?

The weirdest part is when he defends what he said as being true, while saying that he was backed into corners and fallaciously said stuff he doesn't believe in. Seems a little.... odd to say the least.

Or maybe people just don't care about his opinions because they're not in any way visible in any of his content? There's no "guilt" there of any kind, those things are completely disconnected from one another.
