Sgt. Mark IV shows off a new death animation for the demons and zombie troopers for his new version of Brutal Doom. When you use the shotgun at a close range the bodies of the enemies roll over after being blown away by the blast.
I will reduce the minimum range from 300 to 200 units. I mean, the shotgun will only send enemies flying that are VERY close to the player, and shooting on the legs or heads still causes amputations.
Not exactly ragdoll physics but still really cool.
I like how there's all these flashy VFX like bullet holes in glass and blood staining everything, yet the textures are still low-res compared to today.
Not that I think enhancements to Doom are a bad thing, hell I'm as disappointed as many with how most FPS titles these days are Call of Battle 210455 Modern Ghosts
I wish modern FPS was this over-the-top
I just completely lost all interest in Brutal Doom after the ZDoom thread was closed and SG was banned.
Fuck you Ghostbreed.
This mod is so much fun.
But why.
Brutal Doom is cool but I am sick of everyone thinking it's like the replacement of Vanilla or something. Brutal Doom is not very balanced, but it's fun once in a while.
Also yeah as good as a decorate programmer he is he seems to be a weird neo-nazi sociopathic assohole who gets off on pictures of real life gore and violence. So that also kind of just lowers my opinion of the whole thing. Also didn't he get banned for trying to convince some kid to commit suicide who was actually on the verge of committing suicide? I wasn't there so I don't know for sure, but damn he seems like a jerk.
Also yeah that huge flyback for shotgun blast is a little much, I hope it's optional or something, I prefer the original way they reacted to the shotgun. Maybe it would fit better for the rocket launcher's splash damage.
Brutal Doom just keeps getting better and better.

You took the words out of my mouth.
I'd like them back. You don't know where my mouth has been, that's gross.
On a serious note, that's pretty much my exact stance on the mod and Sgt. Mark, and I can't stand people who act like "THIS IS HOW DOOM WAS MEANT TO BE PLAYED"
Really diggin the background facebook notices

Not even going to mention his terrible history of stealing work and adding uncredited content to his mods? He's a bad person. Nonetheless, doesn't mean you can't enjoy the mod. I know I do despite all the shit he does and has done.
Holy shit. That's cool.
Everything around brutal doom kinda turned sour after I found out what a massive prick the creator is. His attitude just scream 2cool4school, suggesting a suicidal person to use a plastic bag to kill themselves with, using real gore pictures as sprites, joyfully describing what other gore pictures he came across, and his overall arrogant behavior,
just
ugh

Damn, Hitler could certainly paint well.
Though I think this is the first time I've ever seen someone mention Hitler in a discussion like this and not say he's worse than the guy. :v:
The creator of this painting killed 20 milion Jews
Not a valid comparison as this painting does not contain "a picture of a guy wich got his head ran over by a bus, and his brain splattered all over the street" or comments in the code which state "// Watch how the plasma magic can instantly turn an average white guy into a nigger faster than Rap."

You can't tell whats in a commented section of code just by playing the mod
just like you couldn't tell if the paint in that picture was made form Jew tears
Why does everything cool have to be covered in drama.

Sgt Mark pissed off the Doom communities with his callous attitude so he either got banned or booted out of 'em, and now people just seem to take the extra step and go around spreading the word. Almost as if to discourage people from completely associating with anything the guy's made.
Yeah, Brutal Doom is unreasonably popular (i'd personally prefer Samsara got more attention; even the Sperglord Edition Xubs mentioned is better than Vanilla Brutal Doom to me). Yeah, Sgt is a gore fetishist, possibly racist, and a jerkass to folks sometimes even if they weren't idiots. Running around declaring it isn't really going to change that much, though, in the grand scheme of things. The fact that it happens every single time Brutal Doom comes up as a primary topic practically anywhere I go does not help whatsoever.
This brutal doom developer is what I would expect Gurant to be if judging only from his photos.
And to be honest, I actually do kinda like the mod. I'm just not a fan of Sgt. Mark IV as a person for reasons already stated.
I just play Sperglord Edition when I feel like Brutal Doom so I can kinda have a guilt-free version.
And again, "THIS IS HOW DOOM WAS MEANT TO BE PLAYED" no it's really not. It's a fun mod but it kinda wrecks the shit out of the sense of progression and balance Doom has. In theory, making every weapon viable sounds good on paper. But in practice, everything being viable does not lead to everything being used. It kind of promotes a tendency to get comfy with one specific gun and rarely change to something more situationally appropriate. Which is funny, because it seemed like the kind of balance they had in mind was supposed to prevent this sort of behavior with Doom players clutching the supershotgun like it was their first-born child. I'm guilty of this myself, though, so maybe I shouldn't talk.
Sorry if it sounded like I was bandwagoning earlier.
Brutal Doom is amazing. If you haven't played it you're wrong. The game is a violent gorefest to begin with, who cares if the modder's into it

all that talk about gore reminds me that one l4d2 dev who have a folder full of blood and gore and made the other devs sick

I thought it was diseases? I remember faintly from the commentary that they'd compiled a bunch of image references of things like skin conditions and other aliments to be used as a reference for the Infected but ultimately never used them because nobody wanted to look through the folder.

you are right
"[Bronwen Grimes] The infected textures are part hand-painted, part photographic reference. One of our team members had a nightmare folder full of photographs of people suffering from bizarre diseases and injuries. They were so hard to look at that the infected actually contain none of these. Instead, the secret ingredients for infecting normal-looking human textures are photos of housing insulation and potato skins."
That facebook notification sound in the video really threw me off
Regardless of SgtMark's general craziness, I can't even enjoy brutal doom because of the fucking death screams and taunts
They are so loud that they make me immediately want to quit the game as soon as I die/kill something that plays those sounds
