More like the present.
cool it's interactive, I have to turn off the annotations myself!!
There's a solution to this http://adblockplus.org/en/chrome and if annotations bother you, just click the chat bubble on the bottom right of the player.

No more youtube. How the fuck do you think they can afford to store and serve endless amounts of video to whoever the fuck wants to watch them? Either it's a subscription service (would you pay?), the video uploader pays (who would upload, besides ADVERTISING companies), or you get to see a fucking 5 second ad before whatever the fuck it is you want to watch. When you're willing to pay out of pocket, for hosting videos for the entire world, feel free to create an alternate service with your endless billions of dollars. Until then, support the fucking video host and uploader by giving them the 1 cent for your 5 seconds of time.
More like the present.
when that advertisement appeared on the bottom in the middle of the video I tried to click on it to close it by reflex.

The uploader only gets money if they click on it, iirc
How do the ads make money anyway? I've never really bothered to learn about it. Is it by viewcount or do you actually have to click the links for them to get anything?

It's a huge money sink for Google anyway.
Youtube isn't paid for by advertisements, dude. It's a huge money sink for Google anyway.
It's been profitable since 2008.

I actually tried to close some of the ads in the video. Force of habit.
It's been profitable since 2008.
Wasn't there an article posted in SH where Google says that Youtube still is not profitable for them not too long ago?

I don't us using it makes that big a dent.

And-that's-not-an-advertisement-for-AdBlockPlus, and-you-totally-don't-have-to-download-it-right-now-for-your-favorite-Web-browser-absolutely-Free-of-charge. Don't-find-out-more-on-blrblrblr

It's been a general assumed fact about the partner community that YT started running in the black and making a profit in late 08, but I guess it was unfounded.
How do the ads make money anyway? I've never really bothered to learn about it. Is it by viewcount or do you actually have to click the links for them to get anything?
depends on the contract. for bloggers and stuff you get money partially based on ad clicks. however, with youtube it's probably a bit more similar to tv where the company pays a certain fee to have the ad placed on a certain amount of relevant videos. however, youtube doesn't get paid for people who watch videos with adblock on(a user needs to view the ad to get revenue for youtube).
With the amount of ads on Youtube videos these days, it feels like the ads are shoved down my throat. Which they are. I just realized how obvious my post was.
I forgot adverts existed on the internet I've been using adblock so long
I fucking hated youtube ads then my brother told me about adblock never looked back. The thing that pushed me over the end was the ads on the side of the video that you have no control over and then would start blaring noise at random. I would leave a youtube tab open over night go to bed then around 1:00 A.M. "DOES YOUR CATS SHITTER SMELL LIKE SHIT!!!".
That'll work if you want youtube to go broke. No more youtube. If it's honestly ever so bad that ads take up as much time in proportion to content as it does on television, then let it die, it doesn't deserve to exist. I can't stand being blasted by distracting, ugly, intrusive, and often enough unsafe ads that pop up and get in my face and slow down my shit. If I think that content is worth it, then I leave a like and I donate if there's an option. but the more ads are forced down my throat, the less I enjoy my content, the less the overall experience is worth, until it's at the point that TV is at and it's just so unbearable that I simply can't watch it any longer. Far's I'm concerned, if they want to advertise they can figure out a way to do it that isn't fucking my eyeballs (and my browser). I pay for services I think are worth it, out of my pocket. I don't consent to being bombarded with advertisements every time I browse the internet. Honestly, if it wasn't for adblocker I'm not sure I could enjoy Youtube at all. Every time I go to someone's place and have to sit through fucking 30 seconds of advertisements and have that flashing ugly animated shit in the corner and those little popups, I just can't stand it. I don't know how anyone does.
How the fuck do you think they can afford to store and serve endless amounts of video to whoever the fuck wants to watch them?
Well, the way google do it for their other products is that they mine your personal data and then sell it for mad cash.
Judging by what this guy was watching it's more or less The Future of Youtube. period.
Using AdBlock hurts the content creators, not YouTube itself. And no, it's not just based on clicks. Of course clicks give more money than just viewing the ad but simply showing the ad gives the majority of the revenue. Honestly they should just find a way to block the site for anybody who uses AdBlock.
;40244420']I can't stand being blasted by distracting, ugly, intrusive, and often enough unsafe ads that pop up and get in my face and slow down my shit.
YouTube doesn't have unsafe ads, audio ads, or pop ups.
there's plenty of internet explorer-using people who don't know about adblock. I don't us using it makes that big a dent.
Absolutely false. Several YouTube people lose about 20% of their total revenue because of you assholes (TomSka is an example, he posted his statistics on Twitter. I'm another example). That means you're taking 20% off of their (often only) source of income. Think about it.
;40244420']Alright, fine, whatever. Let it go broke.
Ever heard of how much money all these "youtube stars" are making? Like RWJ? Or Pewdiepie? Youtube gets 50% of that cake. From every youtuber. And its FAR from going broke.
Honestly they should just find a way to block the site for anybody who uses AdBlock.
You do realize that you can fake viewing the adds in most cases right? If a policy like that was implemented, you can be sure that there would be an immediate rework of adblocking software to get around it.
YouTube doesn't have unsafe ads, audio ads, or pop ups.
I've seen malicious ads on youtube, as well as anything adsense. Sometimes it slips through.
Absolutely false. Several YouTube people lose about 20% of their total revenue because of you assholes (TomSka is an example, he posted his statistics on Twitter. If the market decides that advertising support is unacceptable, then that's just the way it is. You might as well be claiming that your website needs bailout money.
In short: Too fucking bad. Nobody owes you anything.
