Gotta love that free market, allowing scummy companies to make 600% profit on life savings meds. Get your shit together American healthcare, this is people's lives we're talking about.

It's worse than the free market. It's got the capitalist "do whatever the fuck you want" that lets them jack up the price to insane amounts, with the added bonus of government regulations killing off anything that tries to compete. It's a horrible amalgam of the worst aspects of capitalism and socialism, all to serve the corporation that can lobby the hardest.
Yeah, Mylan is shady as fuck. They're having an antitrust suit filed against them right now but it's not likely to go anywhere.
why don't you stop eating so much mac and cheese so you won't need medicare as much?

This is beyond idiotic to say.

If it was a free market, then we'd have some alternatives that the government wasn't actively killing off.

Epipens are just a symptom of a much larger problem. I can only buy infusion sets to deliver the insulin that I need to live every day from a single manufacturer and supplier.

What does epinephrine have to do with Mac & Cheese?
Unless you have some deathly anaphylactic response to one of the ingredients?

Even worse, people actually defend these kinds of practices as good business like it's just taking advantage of an opportunity that presented itself.

Yes, because overeating totally causes severe allergic reactions from bee stings.
You're a fucking moron.

why don't you start thinking before you post so you won't need to be told how stupid you are

I fail to see the pertinence mac and cheese has with EpiPens. Or is this just another snide comment to come off as above the issue.
"Not my illness, not my problem!" right?
Adrenaclick is currently ~$150 per pen, cheaper than EpiPens but still what the fuck.
Adrenaclick is currently ~$150 per pen, cheaper than EpiPens but still what the fuck.
In the case with Adrenaclick the price is to makeup what they lose from everyone and their dog being pushed towards EpiPens, its cheaper and still cheap as hell to make but they don't sell enough overall to offset the cost, plus if its being bought via insurance (which I've heard is very rare because of the EpiPen monopoly so a lot don't cover it) its mostly to recuperate the expenses from the insurance company. Frankly it can go cheaper but it wont happen until something is sorted about the whole EpiPen problem, the first stage would be getting doctors and insurance companies to validate the use of generics like Adrenaclick, it works exactly like EpiPens except it has an extra cap you have to take off that is obvious as hell.
Luckily I'm glad we don't have to deal with this level of bullshit over in Europe (even though its slowly going this way in the UK, fun).

Actually if it was a true free market, the whole EpiPen debacle wouldn't have ever happened. EpiPen's producer has been able to charge so much because the government grants them a monopoly for the delivery method used by EpiPen.
An alternative product exists called Adrenaclick and it only costs a fraction of the price of the EpiPen, but most doctors don't prescribe it because:
a) not all of the doctors out there know that it exists (also read next paragraph)
b) it's not covered by some insurance policies, and
c) it is forced to used a different delivery method than EpiPen (thank you, government), rightfully creating concern for doctors as being a point of confusion when an event occurs and literal seconds can make a difference
And on top of all of that, the different delivery method thing means that Adrenaclick is considered as almost a completely different product from EpiPen rather than as a generic equivalent, so prescriptions for EpiPens can't be used to purchase Adrenaclick instead. Once again, thank you government.

Tl;dr blame stupid government regulations; a freer market opening up competition would improve things enormously

they enjoy not dying from the flu because the hospital bills are too high
people with debilitating illnesses don't matter i guess
They don't. Money matters. In the USA money is all that matters, and you can mark my words on this: Greed and the overwhelming desire to pad your high score (Bank account) will eventually see all the money at the top, very little down below, and the prices of everything getting higher and higher to facilitate the padding of the rich's high score slowly putting everything out of financial reach, will bring the next depression. This is going to eventually extend to just basic groceries. (It costs me $10 for a gallon of milk, some eggs and a loaf of bread here and the prices go up EVERY DAY)
I call it a high score because after hundreds of millions of dollars, why would you fight and lobby so hard to make even more? It's so you can say you have it
It may be 20 years from now, but it's coming. And the rich will be just fine, it won't really affect them, so they don't give a shit that it's coming

or dying from the resulting debt for that matter

Where do you live? I'm in Southern California, one of the most expensive places to live in the US, and groceries aren't nearly that expensive here. Those three items would be like $6 for me.
As a result of the epipen price hike, I'm having to go without so now in the event I go into anaphalactic shock, no more Flak.
As a person who works at a Pharmacy, It's rather debilitating to see the price of these even for people covered with good insurance. Whenever I see the price for it come
up when a patient picks up medication, I think something is wrong with the insurance, and attempt to check to see if there was no coverage/old insurance information
used. I guess I can save some time at work after watching this video, now I'll just pout internally when I see someone being charged 100-300 dollars for something they need.
Besides HIV med manufactures, Mylan is a shady dealer of vitality.
