I know im late in the game on this little rant but it honestly needs to be said and brought up to the masses so it can be dealt with. We need more gamers to grow a backbone and learn that if we don't let companies know what their doing sucks, they won't improve and will just try to take more and more control away from the gamer. I just wonder why so many people say Uplay isn't a problem?
fixed; rule number one, remove the s in 'https'
Thanks, didn't realize thats what was causing the problem their.
Uplay is an issue? I had to go through it when I was trying out Anno2070 but I had no issues with it.
I really hate how I have to launch game through Uplay even if they're activated on Steam. This is especially troublesome incase I lose my account info for Uplay but not Steam. Although, I also really like the rewards stuff that they have. They're all free and usually cool shit that you earn through ingame points/achievements.
Uplay is an issue? [editline]18th November 2013[/editline]
I actually think uplay is better than steam. It has very light DRM that isn't always on, doesn't freeze games when you lose internet connection like Steam, it uses less memory, and the unlock system is pretty cool. Ubisoft also sells their AAA titles on GOG without any DRM at all--even key verification. You don't see Valve doing that. The only thing that makes me angry about using uplay is having to run Steam because my licenses are there.
I am aware of them putting their games on GOG but I think the most recent game they put their was Rayman Origins. I simply don't want Uplay, If i wanted to use I would, but the fact is this is very similar to what happened with Sim City2012 and look how well that turned out.
personally I'm just miffed that everyone's trying to create their own steam alternative and it might get more complicated to manage the systems themselves as time goes on. I don't mind origin and uplay thus far though, people blew origin out of proportion but I hadn't even heard of uplay til I got splinter cell and assassin's creed black flag from a graphics card bonus gift thing recently
personally I'm just miffed that everyone's trying to create their own steam alternative and it might get more complicated to manage the systems themselves as time goes on.
It makes absolutely no sense that companies are doing this now, sure it would of made some sense if origin or uplay came out a few months after steam or a year or so but steam was launched somewhere back in 2003 if I recall correctly. There's literally no point in these companies trying to beat a software that's had a ten year head start and has already solidified peoples opinions, most of the alternative services people put up with since they have to use it to play games I.E. Mass Defect 3
I really like Uplay compared to all the other platforms. It's super fast and lightweight. It doesn't make what EA and Ubisoft do right though, we should have the choice whether we want to use their service or not.
Uplay isn't that bad
I really like Uplay compared to all the other platforms. It's super fast and lightweight. My only problem is when you buy it on steam yet still have to go through uplay. It's an added level of annoyance.
if that single company continuously gives us rock bottom sales the future isn't too bleak
Valve already has done some really dick things and is honestly not a company I would trust with running the whole pc market. The big problem though is now that steam has gotten this big there's other competitors making their own exclusives so now you have to have multiple DRM clients to get your games and it's silly
My only problem is when you buy it on steam yet still have to go through uplay. It's an added level of annoyance.
It starts in like 3 seconds, the only annoying thing is that it stays open after closing the game, but that could easily be fixed by Ubisoft if more people actually had a problem with it.
No one wants that, thats the nice thing about pc is that its a free market. I don't think Origin is that bad, either.
Fuck Uplay. I bought Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon legitimately, on Steam, and Uplay just plain refused to work on my computer for no reason, so I couldn't play it at all. I went to Ubisoft's customer support for help and they just kept giving me canned responses that didn't help at all (Even when I said I'd already tried the things the canned response suggested and they didn't work). I ended up having to pirate a game I'd purchased legitimately to be able to play it, all because Uplay is a fucking terrible program.
Its an Issue when something as simple as a demo requires you to sign up for a service you don't want to use.
I think you're forgetting Steam does this. Anyway, I like Uplay. The design of winning rewards with points you get from completing tasks is pretty cool. The only thing Steam has like that are the trading cards, but those are purely for monetization. Uplay is also pretty unobtrusive. Steam is much more of a headache all around, but those deals. e: Oh, and can you just go away your videos are terrible.
I don't think Origin is that bad, either.
What are the pluses of origin? Is it even possible to opt out of the scanning of files BS that they were doing? [editline]18th November 2013[/editline]
Yeah, it's called not playing the game so you don't have to use their service.
So your telling me that I can't want a game but don't want a service forced upon me in order to play said game?
So your telling me that I can't want a game but don't want a service forced upon me in order to play said game?
That's not what they said; if you don't like something, don't buy it (and complain, of course).
So your telling me that I can't want a game but don't want a service forced upon me in order to play said game?
you can't get everything you want man! sometimes in life you got to make those hard video game consumer decisions
What are the pluses of origin? Is it even possible to opt out of the scanning of files BS that they were doing?
yes, you can sandbox origin and prevent it from looking at unrelated files kind of like VAC and its hard drive scanning abilities
you can't get everything you want man! sometimes in life you got to make those hard video game consumer decisions yes, you can sandbox origin and prevent it from looking at unrelated files .......unlike VAC, in which doesn't give you the ability to restrict its hard drive scanning adventures
if we tell Ubisoft were disgruntled about the mandatory Uplay integration they'll remove it like they did with Origins. Its good to know that Origin has finally made that possible, Now if only the issues with Uplay were solved such as the Cloud gaming issue that makes it impossible to erase your game saves. Or the issue of them not helping you if your steam game isn't working with Uplay. I haven't seen a game use VAC since 1999 so that isnt even a valid argument.
if we tell Ubisoft were disgruntled about the mandatory Uplay integration they'll remove it like they did with Origins.
yes i'm glad to be enjoying all my recent Origin titles on my Steam account such as as
VAC since 1999 so that isnt even a valid argument.
such as the revered classics CS GO and COD Ghosts
Your video titles annoy the piss out of me. Fucking use capitalization properly.
Uplay is OK but super tacked onto steam and useless as fuck thank god you don't need origin for games you buy on steam, otherwise you'd need Steam, origin, then uplay just to run the damn thing.' and whats even the point of the video? Isn't this common sense? What masses? it's already hated, some random guy talking about what everyone already knows with undereditted images won't do much. You aren't going to convince Ubisoft to totally remove the service as it's too late. Just don't buy their games if you have to. I don't mind Uplay too much, but I just don't see why every Assassin's Creed game on Steam since AC2 requires you to install Uplay to use it. You're essentially using one PC gaming platform to launch a second PC gaming platform that will then launch the game you want to play. It's just completely unnecessary. Yeah, Ubisoft's achievements and rewards system is pretty neat, but other than that, their program is nothing more than a waste of hard drive space.

You aren't going to have uplay friends if you have steam so what the hell is the point in achievements too? especially if most are just beating the game or being underwater for 5 minutes... they aren't really boastable at all like on Xbox or steam. Not only that but rewards are always insanely minor and pointless. Especially wallpapers that you can GOOGLE.

If you guys had that same attitude then Capcom would still be at large with the DLC bs. If it were too late then why did they remove it from Origins?
I like how uPlay can run through STEAM. It means that even though it uses it's own secondary service, I don't have to open up a second one all the time like I do with Origin.
