Nominal energy of the .45 ACP: 482 joules
Nominal energy of the 9mm Luger: 459 joules
The .45 ACP actually has a lower velocity, but a heavier bullet, so the energy delivered is about the same.
An AK will not be stopped by a ham sandwich.

.45acp bullets typically weigh twice what 9mm bullet does. But it's subsonic, which means it has a lot less energy when it hits the target than the supersonic 9mm.

Despite what I just posted above, my saying is what does it matter. As long as you're comfortable with the round and accurate with your firearm it shouldn't matter. You can get the biggest and baddest round on earth, but if you can't hit anything it isn't worth a shit.

the difference comes with expansion. .45 makes a bigger hole.
if you're running hollow points though it's a toss up
