Out of boredom, I created an air cannon, and decided to make a video of what it could do. (Subscribe to the youtube channel if you want, I plan on building a much larger steel cannon as opposed to the schedule 40 pipe that I used)
did you make the steelbar fit so no air escapes?
Low budget sniper rifle right there.
did you make the steelbar fit so no air escapes?
I rammed a piece of corn cob down the barrel that fit real snug to hold the air back. Then later my friends and I shot corn kernels at each other from all the corn we husked. Thats freaking awesome dude, try to get some close shots in slowmo EDIT: Note to self, watch the whole video before posting

Your valve opens wayyyyy too slowly, I can hear the hiss as it opens. You are probably harnessing about 1/2 of the power your cannon is capable of. Try using a quick evacuation valve or a modded sprinkler valve, it will open faster and you will get drastically better air flow and much more power. Or at least put the ball valve at a less awkward angle so you can open it quicker. [editline]26th October 2010[/editline] Go to www.spudfiles.com . Loads of good info there.

My current design with two tanks is really awkward, as could be expected for me not drawing my plans out on paper first. I was also thinking about upgrading to a butterfly valve as opposed to the ball valve.
I made an air cannon once, although it costed me around 100 bucks and was less powerful becase it used a combustion mechanism instead of compressed air. [editline]28th October 2010[/editline] You should make a railgun for your next project. I was expecting an airzooka. Was pleasantly surprised. Well done.
Make some more videos firing like nails or something!

Capacitors and such are too damn expensive.

Mine was a little better built and had more capacitors than the one above.
Nice one mate, consider combustion instead if you want it to be portable.
Combustion could melt the plastic pipes hes using, still, trying a different material wouldn't be a bad idea
