This guy makes me want to play this game. But that's literally the only reason. I'd probably just play it 5 minutes and forget it in my steam library with the other 400 games I own.
F-18 dude sounds kinda like Dave Koechner, makes this 100x funnier for me.
How do you even get into something like this. Do you need to go to pilot school in order to play? How many years do you need before you can play?

its very casual.
A lot of stuff can be keybound, and there are realism settings.
I can fly from one side of NA to the other very easily.

Microsoft Flight Simulator actually made me a decent pilot before I even strapped in the first time.
There are scenery and plane addons that can reach over $60. Maybe even 100+? I’m not sure I’m not into that.
there are companies out there that only sell addons for flight sim.
thoygh the amount of work that goes into them is a lot. Probably worth the price.

Depends how serious the people on the other side of the radio want to be, but actually flying isnt that hard after a few hours in the simulator. Serious radio comms can be annoying but if you ever watch youtube channels like VASaviation you can pick it up, and then it just takes some practice to get the hang of things.
Simulators are used as training tools for a reason, I flew a lot of helicopters in DCS before I went and flew one for real and while its not the same experience there are still mechanical skills that carry over.

PMDG makes Boeing jet addons, around $60 for one plane. But it's incredibly detailed. It would come with 2 manuals, 1 for the plane, and 1 for the flight computer.

2017 and it still takes 20+ minutes to start an aircraft.

It doesn't actually take that long really

Startup times have only gotten longer over the years.
Back in the first years of flight, all you needed to do was make sure the fuel can get to the engine and someone can come along to hand-start the thing. Nowadays there's so many different functions and redundancies that a million switches are necessary just so the pilots still have total control.
But only if you're in a larger aircraft or a jet fighter. Planes like the average Cessna are so simple that the average startup procedure consists of turning the battery on and literally turning the key like it's a car.

MSFS used to be mostly for enthusiasts or people a bit interested in aviation, and now it's just for Enthusiasts or people bored as fuck that don't really care about aviation. You get out of it what you put in it. Used to have a really active online community on MSN Gaming Zone, VATSIM is still around, Air Source is still around, Used to easily grab just any addon you could ever want, and have your choice of quality in the mod/addon scene, but the sense of community has almost vanished over the years, though
The Level D Simulations 767-300 was my go to. Put more time into that than I'd like to admit over 10 years

Oh man, the MSN Gaming Zone. That's where I first got this screenname, back in 98. I was in the chat room on there the morning of 9/11, with people in the NYC area talking about a bunch of smoke downtown.
