Everybody is going to say that about every year. You can't just say "this year was bigger than last year" or "nothing tops 2005" or some shit like that. A lot happens every year. So much that it really isn't possible to compare them all.
It's part of how we as human beings tend to be forgetful. This year seems bigger than the last because this year is fresher in our memory than last year is.
It was pretty alright. Not as good as the 2010 one IMO though.

The Arab Spring, the Libyan civil war, the capture of bin Laden, the death of Kim Jong-il, Occupy Wall Street, the Russian protests, the Japanese tsunami, the first signs of the Higgs boson. The Japanese tsunami in particular seems very long ago to me, as does Rebecca Black, because so much has happened since then.
I think 2011 will be remembered as the year everyone lost their shit with the way things were. If I wanted to, I could list hundreds of events they missed. It's a music video, they can't really touch on everything. I hope 2012 brings a few more brighter days.
