alternate title: "High school basketball team wins game in best way possible"
backstory:
Arlington High School played Central Christian Academy on Tuesday night (OK, so it was technically February) in an Indiana state tournament.•
With 0.5 seconds left to go, Arlington had a one point lead with still a free throw to shoot. So they basically had the game in the bag.
But that's when a crucial error occurred. Arlington decided to intentionally miss the second free throw, and....

Why would they intentionally miss?
Intentionally missing means the clock starts as soon as the ball gets to the floor. When you make a free throw, the clock stays stopped and the other team gets the ball out of bounds. The clock doesn't start until the ball is TOUCHED by a player from an out-of-bounds pass. This means that making the free throw would result in ONE opportunity for the other team to throw a hail mary pass down the court and potentially have a much closer shot.
By missing, the clock starts as soon as the ball hits the floor, meaning that the other team has 0.5 seconds from that exact moment to make the pass and hit the shot. Instead, this kid grabbed the rebound and immediately hummed it down the court, which is exactly what the team shooting free throws wanted them to do. Unfortunately, he made the full court shot!

I think my favorite part of the video is the freezeframe at the very end that shows absolute pandemonium occurring on the sides of the court with the referee signalling that the shot was good in the center.
you can see the free thrower's soul immediately leave his body as the basket is made
