An all-new game mode for Paladins - introducing Paladins: Battlegrounds! Welcome to the first-ever hero-shooter battle royale.

This morning at the HRX 2018 keynote presentation, Hi-Rez Studios announced that its hit free-to-play hero shooter Paladins will presenting its very own 100-player Battle Royale mode, called Battlegrounds. Paladins Battlegrounds will be rolling out this year, and will be free for all Paladins players. Check out the brand new trailer above!
No one saw this coming, and it's something we didn't know we wanted until we heard about it. With the Battle Royale craze reaching its apex, we wondered how the genre might be driven forward, and by whom. Paladins: Battlegrounds represents the very first hero-shooter battle royale game, and the fact that every player will be able to take advantage of their hero's unique abilities and work together with a team will shake things up in a serious, and seriously fun, way.
So here's how this is all going to go down: Players are going to spawn on a huge fantasy map over 300-times the size of a typical Paladins siege map. Players will ride out into the map on mounts, scout over four dozen outposts for pickups, and track zeppelins which drop legendary gear. Over the course of the match each team's constituent players will become incredibly powerful, and as the fog of war contracts, the fighting will become more intense. Who will be the last team standing?
Paladins' executive producer Todd Howard thinks that Battlegrounds can offer a satisfying mashup of the battle royale hooks that we're used to, and more innovative, MMO style strategy. "Riding on a mount through this massive fantasy-themed map, looking for gear and cooperating with your team, Paladins: Battlegrounds delivers some of the feel of open-world MMO PvP but all within a 20-minute match."
Not content with putting even worse card balancing bullshit, gotta steal something
Todd Howard? The fuck I didn't know he worked on this game
Or is this another todd

I think it's supposed to be Todd Harris.
afaik the game has EA Battlefront 2 progession that they add just when the [del]controversy[/del] immerse sense of pride and accomplishement has been revealed. That puts me off of trying it out, but I still will give it a shot to see what's up.
I love how they straight up just called it “Battlegrounds.” That’s great.
So a game that is considered to be an overwatch rip off is now ripping off another game.
This is some meta shit.
I'm fine with genre copycatting if its good
but the music choice, what the fuck is this lmao

This absolutely killed the game for me, I have not played since they revealed that stinking pile of shit system. Even though 70% of the community hated that shit on first sight, they still went through with it. I refuse to support their shitty practices, and I suggest everyone else do the same too.
its actually impressive to see how disconnected from reality studios can be
isn't paladins literally built upon taking ideas directly from other popular games without changing or enhancing them at all, like some kind of stitched-together frankenstein monster that seems like it should've came from china but isn't

Not really? Like it's the meme that went around for a long time, but the gameplay itself has enough variance that it was fun to play and such. But still wouldn't recommend it until they change back to the old progression system or something else than what it is now. At least I got my $12 out of it before they changed it.

Nope, it was unique in its own way, and the progression was fine for players who didn't pay anything.
Now the balancing is completely fucked, and almost all uniqueness to player loadouts is gone.
All the old fans (including me) can hope for is them to roll back to the previous system, which sadly they probably won't do.

not really, there's footage from 2012 (pre-overwatch announcement) that shows paladins as a fairly complete game, that managed to be OW-esque even when OW wasn't around for it to copy
they later added stuff that was a little too 'coincidental' to defend, plus the horrible progression everyone already mentioned, but the meat of the game is definitely original
Never cared much for Paladins (Hi-Rez can fuck off) but anything that has a chance to send bluehole into another hypocritical hissy fit AGAIN is golden in my book so yeah, I'm fine with this.
Hi-Rez following the latest trend? This is unprecedented! I, for one, am SHOCKED.
I started playing this game literally a week before they introduced the new card system. It's becoming very clear to me that they never had any intention of actually fixing the problems with this game. They just keep focusing their development time on adding new champions and titty cosmetics, and shit like this. It's a shame, because this game does have quite a lot of good things going for it.
I had fun with this game, but I think I'm done with it. I was waiting to see if they would go back on the card system. Instead, they didn't touch it at all, and added this shit and a new champion only a month after adding the last one.
Another thing is that this game has NO consistent tone or direction, other than "fantasy". Just look at the trailer for the new champion.

very interested in how this is going to work, actually
how are heroes going to work? how is looting going to work alongside what hero you're playing?
Paladins will quickly become the go to place to play shitty free versions of popular games. Coming soon, PaladinsVRchat, giving you the chance to get up close and personal with our cast of shitty characters.

It’s like a trailer from 2004.

Tbh it could still work today
if this was some kind of like mad max punk rock game where everyone was getting blown to paste it'd be a pretty alright fit
why not just call it ffa
Or last man standing (just like it was in UT)

Honestly if we want to call Paladins an OW ripoff then atleast I can honestly say it's actually a better game, just less polished.
That is, until the last beta update ruined the game.

Easily this. Overwatch was a joke compared to Paladins. Very underrated for what it was, and it's free to play. Not to mention the loot system was better... until now that is. RIP Paladins.

I don't understand what kind of emotion this is supposed to convey.

No matter how many fucking times you say this doesn't make it true, and I like Paladins a lot. The Card system has been fucking awful since day 1, the game modes have been buggy and they keep introducing characters that make old ones obsolete entirely. There's a new DPS hero that has a basic ability that does MORE DAMAGE THAN ANOTHER'S ULT.
And that other character's ult was considered brokenly overpowered.
