Basically, the Halo Wars 2 beta got an unexpected update that added a lot of stuff to the files, which lead to people rummaging through it all to find stuff like the music, character renders used for the menu, different music tracks and voice lines. Shame it's just high-poly versions of the in-game units and not the stuff Blur will use. List of important stuff since the video is 15 minutes long: 0:00 - Concept art? 0:38 - Banished Blisterback, Hunters and Elite Honor Guard 2:08 - UNSC Cyclops's(?), a Wolverine and special Marine unit 3:33 - Banished Locust, a Brute Chopper and Elites 5:02 - UNSC Kodiak, a Jackrabbit and Hellbringers 6:29 - Banished Marauders, Decimus, a Brute and some Grunts 7:57 - UNSC Grizzly, Jackrabbits and Marines 9:24 - Banished Wraith, Ghost and an unnamed Brute unit 11:04 - UNSC Scorpion, Warthogs and Spartan wearing the new unnamed Mk IV/VI hybrid armor 12:20 - Ark loading screen
I love the Brute aesthetic they gave to all of the underling Covie races' armors.
FYI that special marine unit at 2:08 is the UNSC sniper.
How is it a spin-off game nails down the art-style better then 343I.
How is it a spin-off game nails down the art-style better then 343I.
Because the game was made by competent people.
Gonna have a hell of a soundtrack.
Because the game was made by competent people.
That being also 343? They're a major part of the dev. Real reason is that 343 got so much shit for the new art style that they went back and made it great again.
What's up with the colors, everything looks grey ? I guess the game wont be like that ?
Imagine halo 6 looks more like halo than the remake of halo does
How is it a spin-off game nails down the art-style better then 343I.
In Halo Wars 1, The UNSC Spirit of Fire (the ship you command), was stranded on the other side of the universe and presumed lost with all hands during the Harvest campaign, which predates the events of Reach by a few years. The crew went into cryosleep from the long arse jouney back to Earth. They're still presumed missing by the time this game takes place which is after the UNSC Infinity launches, so there's actually an in universe explaination (if they use it, but even then it'll look different to Halo wars 1 because reasons), they're still fighting with 30~40 year old technology and equipment. Any equipment they find while fighting on the Ark will be left overs from Halo 3, because as far as the UNSC knows, the thing was destoryed and only sent a probe to check it out 'recently', they've not gone back to it. The last line may be wrong, i havent kept up with Halo lore for a long time.
Any equipment they find while fighting on the ark will be left overs from Halo 3.
No. The tech left on the Ark is from Halo 5, and HW2's art style reflects that. A few years ago (before HW2 was in development IIRC) 343 released the book Hunters in the Dark that deals with the aftermath of Installation 04B firing. I'm not going into what happens but by the end the UNSC Home Fleet gets fucked and research teams are sent to establish a permanent base on the Ark. After Cortana took control of Earth at the end of Halo 5 the Portal at Voi shut down as a Forerunner failsafe designed to keep the Ark safe.

Halo's artstyle used to be the "Colonial marines/80s sci fi/James cameron" aesthetic. Now 343 sacrificed it to now look like some Marvel/anime/generic sci fi afterbirth bullshit aesthetic that has no originality to it. Had a discussion earlier about this with a friend, being simple is better.
What's up with the colors, everything looks grey ? I guess the game wont be like that ?
I assume the grey bits will be replaced with team colors

Though now I think about it they have a new AI on the ship in the trailers so they find modern human stuff, but that doesnt mean they find modern UNSC equipment, though it seems likely if they're to stand any chance of fighting modern covenant tech.
No, by making HW2 looking like how it it is. I'm talking now not Halo 5's release.
Oh, oops.

There's a bunch of derelict UNSC bases now that the Banished have taken over and what's left of the UNSC unable to reach them. There's evidence of them merging their tech already, the Marines use Halo 4/5 helmets and the new Mjolnir armor is definitely GEN II from the techsuit. With an AI, they can access the Ark's systems. One of the trailers shows a fuckload of Sentinels under Isabel's control (I think) so they have a fighting chance.
2:08 Halo has mechs?
2:08 Halo has mechs?
Yeah. There's four types of mechs in the Halo universe. [IMG_thumb]http://www.halopedia.org/images/8/87/HRUNTING_YGGDRASIL.png[/IMG_thumb] HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark I ADS. Cost too much to make so it was scrapped and the tech redesigned for use in Mjolnir armor. Later on the project was revived by a UNSC Materials group which lead to: HRUNTING Mark III Exoskeleton, AKA the Cyclops. The first version is the one seen in Halo Wars, the second is the redesign for Halo Wars 2. HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark IX Mantis, from Halo 4 and 5.
it has since halo 4
Actually, Halo Wars.
I think it's funny that the best looking Mech in Halo is the one done by the Gundam guys.
About five years too late for that; CE: Anniversary already shipped. :v:
Fortunately you can toggle between old and new with the press of a button in that. I ended up playing a good portion of the game with classic graphics because the new graphics added giant fucking unopenable doors where there should've just been a boring concrete wall and it confused me as to where to go. Then I just bought the PC version and played all the way through it there instead
Yeah, CE's remastered graphics were awful. H2A was a much better job.
This looks way more like Halo than any game since Reach
I think it looks pretty good for the most part but I don't like the hexagon texture 343 has been using on the Spartan visors. It just seems like the laziest design thing to make something look more "futuristic".
Actually 343 has more of a technical advisor role regarding the HW2 devdlopment, most of the work is being made by Creative Assembly.
Shhhh people just see 343i and assume they're making it. Which is on the same level as thinking EA makes all their games
Actually 343 has more of a technical advisor role regarding the HW2 devdlopment, most of the work is being made by Creative Assembly.
Nope. Kevin Grace and Jeremy Cook are narrative director and lead art director for HW2, respectively. This is important to note because Kevin Grace is managing editor and franchise manager for 343, while Jeremy cook is a production designer and art director at 343. After the disaster that was the MCC launch (apparently Microsoft was meddling with 343's control at the time, forcing MCC to be developed in a little over a year and supposedly causing a schism in the narrative department) I can't say I'd be surprised if they were getting more closely involved. Creative Assembly might be making the game but 343 are far from being in the "advisor" role.
I thought the problem with "343's armour" was that they kept outsourcing everything instead of doing it in house?
I thought the problem with "343's armour" was that they kept outsourcing everything instead of doing it in house?
That's the biggest problem with the armor design process, but weapons/enemy/vehicle designs are relatively uninspired as well.
