• Trump vs Manson - dissecting what makes a cult leader

I would have preferred to put this in Polidicks, as it is great analysis, but I don't want to do something wrong, so yeah... Okay, bear with me here. I didn't really know who Manson was, although I had heard the name, but the following YouTuber is really thoroughly impressive, and I feel this video might interest you guys too. It's an analysis of two cult leaders with plenty of examples.
Very nice video. I've noticed Donald's incoherent rants from the start (as did many others obviously), but never thought about it any more than just him having ADHD or something. Also interesting to see some of the absurd 'critiques' of it in the comments. A few of them keep repeating the same sentences in different structures, I can only assume that it's some coordinated r/the_donald comment spam.
I remember watching a documentary about Scientology and thinking how the steps of Trumps presidential succes and fandom is eerily similar to how L. Ton Hubbard acted and gained followers.
Always thought that most Trump supporters I've met act like members of some sort of cult. When Trump said that he could shoot someone in the street and not lose any votes, it was followed by applause. That alone is fucking terrifying. I obviously have my political beliefs, but I have no problem with them being challenged and I have no problem seeing the issues with whatever party I've aligned myself with. It feels like everyone that I meet who supports this guy feels like he can do absolutely no wrong, even going so far as saying that Trump never said things that he obviously said on camera. I'm horrified to think about what the next election's going to bring us if he loses, which I think he will. His support can only been falling, but his base is still as loyal as ever.
I have family members who were apolitical or slightly right leaning at most become out and out conspiracy theorists. Someone whom I've always considered to be fairly stable was telling me about how Obama and his wife are orchestrating a coup from a bunker in Washington DC and are behind the media attacks, the investigations in Washington, BLM, and Antifa. The atmosphere that Trump and his supporters who know better have created is fucking insane
Oh, he mentioned the infamous "Look, having nuclear - my uncle was a great professor" speech as an example. I remember having a ton of fun translating it for an article I was writing at the time.
went to watch some videos with charles manson youtube comments aren't really representative of an actual following but it's clear there is an overlap between trump and manson's followers

That last humdinger of a zinger at the end, ah snaps.
