The rigs of rods team posted a video earlier this year that showed off a soft-body physics feature they'd coded into Cryengine 3. This is their most recent update.
that would be a shit ton of fun with my steering wheel
I played that game when my computer could run it - not anymore :c Love it though!
why can we not have some sort of an alpha on a test map!? i would seriously spend hours driving cars in to walls
I played that game when my computer could run it - not anymore :c Love it though!
This isn't even ROR anymore. It's BeamNG! :v:
That's exactly how my old civic would handle off road.
I say this every time, but when this is put into an actual game, you won't even know it. It'll look and feel like the new Most Wanted has more advanced physics. Just like all this stuff always goes. Oh, DMM in Star Wars, you'll be able to manipulate metal and make it bend and warp dynamically. We get it, and it's a few steel beams that you can only bend one way
Probably be just as fun in GTA V

This + destruction derby
Late beyond late..
If several games like these come out they might convince me to buy a steering wheel. Can you guys imagine this with a steering wheel and an Oculus Rift?

And, Again, I say that when this is finally put into an actual game like Crysis, or something that isn't being a tech demo, it'll be watered down worse than over the counter homeopathy meds
And, Again, I say that when this is finally put into an actual game like Crysis, or something that isn't being a tech demo, it'll be watered down worse than over the counter homeopathy meds
You can't water it down, it's designed to work that way.
And, Again, I say that when this is finally put into an actual game like Crysis, or something that isn't being a tech demo, it'll be watered down worse than over the counter homeopathy meds
It's not supposed to be put into any game. That is the game. It's like RoR.
Handles just like my old banger did right before I scrapped it. Decided to trash the everliving shit out of it on a urban trail that ordinary cars can only drive safely at low speeds. Heard a loud "CRUNCH" from the rear suspension and it continued to squeak for the rest of the trip. Fun :v:
Would love to see some driving sim games made with this and rallying stuff :P Looks very promising for devs
Would love to see some driving sim games made with this and rallying stuff :P Looks very promising for devs
I'm pretty sure it's a living hell to make the cars themselves though at the moment, since the cars consist of beams and such that you need to define :v:(like it is in ROR, look that up to get a better view of it) http://www.rigsofrods.com/wiki/pages/RoRBook/First_beams_and_nodes http://www.rigsofrods.com/wiki/pages/Detachable_nodes/beams But lets hope it's easier later on :v:
If this was implemented into some form of aircraft in a game and if certain sections were damaged enough functions would disable themselves; Electronics, flaps, engines, cargo hold, etc.
If this was implemented into some form of aircraft in a game and if certain sections were damaged enough functions would disable themselves; Electronics, flaps, engines, cargo hold, etc.
RoR had aircraft, they were physically damageable just like the cars and such but as far as mechanical and electrical damage went it was limited to just engine failures (like cars). But imagining this being used in a combat game, and if aircraft are implemented, an air combat game. Hnnng. Though Rise of Flight does a very, very good job at it if you're a fan of WW1 air combat.
If this was implemented into some form of aircraft in a game and if certain sections were damaged enough functions would disable themselves; Electronics, flaps, engines, cargo hold, etc.
IL-2 Sturmovik has something kind of similar to that. It's not really physics, but the damage system affects individual sections of the plane, so you can shoot the engines off a bomber without damaging the rest of the plane if you're a good enough shot, and you can get your control surfaces shot clean off leaving you pretty much boned. If you get your wings and stabilizers shot up it affects the handling, too. I'm fairly sure if you put too much strain on part of your plane that's been damaged it snaps off. I've had wings shot up before that broke off when i was turning too sharply.
I hope it will be usable this time. Rigs of Rods... I'm trying but it's just not fun for me. The interface, the graphics, everything. Maybe I'm just playing it wrong (I just want to crash cars into stuff)
And, Again, I say that when this is finally put into an actual game like Crysis, or something that isn't being a tech demo, it'll be watered down worse than over the counter homeopathy meds
It's like your brain can't understand that those videos are from a video game that is being worked on and is no suppose to advertise the engine. I can't stand rigs of rods its ugly, terrible interface, pretty poorly optimized, and difficult as fuck to play.

This is exactly how it will work. What the fuck are you doing? Have you ever even played Rigs of Rods?
The bonnet doesn't open so easily usually. I hate that how it pops up so easily in all the videos. It is like it only weighs 0.5kg instead of the 10+ usually.
This + destruction derby
This plus GTA V. Y'know guys, I love the car physics from GTA IV, I've tried for hours to squash the car as much as possible by speeding into brick walls and corners and shit, but with this stuff it would be amazing. They also need to give you an exo-suit to rip car doors off with.
You can almost feel the whiplash
Soft body distortions are just cool in general. I'm still waiting for a wobbly jello based video game.
