Hope this doesn't result in a 30 billion dollar lawsuit :v:
Massive props to him, and fair note that he is a PhD in Mathematics and not a medical doctor. But honestly though, the only thing that is so "special and trademark" about EpiPens is that they're autoinjectors that have FDA approval. I can't speak for others because there are some medical ethical implications here, but I would be willing to use this on myself if I had anapalytic shock. I doubt it'll hold up in court if legal action were taken against him: "Mark A. Lemley, director of the Stanford University Program in Law, Science, and Technology, says the fact that Laufer is only providing information—not actually selling or distributing components—may keep him out of the FDA’s jurisdiction." Also the fact that on the FourThievesVinegar site, they explicitly lay out a use at own risk warning.
Wouldn't you need to cap the end of the syringe for storage?
Dudes got some long ass fingers. Props to this guy though, good people for doing this for people in need of EpiPens.
Ideally you really should be using an approved product, as this is something you'd use in basically a life or death situation, but for all the people that don't have insurance and can't afford it, it's obviously much, much better than nothing.

You expect me to fall for this? You'd have to be an idiot to trust Hugo Strange
honestly this is one of those times where the government needs to come in and regulate how life saving treatments should be handled.
He forgets to mention preparing the syringe in a non sterile environment means the epinephrine is only good for 24 hours, at most. You'd have to stick a new syringe in the autoinjector every day.

Yes, it's easy to make cheap generic meds when you ignore government regulations. This is a fact we've known for a long time.
Yes, it's easy to make cheap generic meds when you ignore government regulations. This is a fact we've known for a long time.
But he's not making cheap generic meds? He's taking epinephrine that you'd buy from prescription and putting it in a convenient to use way, as the EpiPen does?
He forgets to mention preparing the syringe in a non sterile environment means the epinephrine is only good for 24 hours, at most.
If the needles provided are sterile, and they're punctured straight into the seal of the epinephrine bottle, and if the auto injector itself is sterile and airtight, I don't see why the epinephrine would decay.
he probably means sterile environment as in the room he exposed the needle in, the air could have been contaminated and that'll affect the how sterile it actually is. afaik approved meds are prepared in a lab where there are strict rules to keep the entire room as sterile as well as including the people handling it
when will epipen be on the slingshot channel?
If the needles provided are sterile, and they're punctured straight into the seal of the epinephrine bottle, and if the auto injector itself is sterile and airtight, I don't see why the epinephrine would decay.
As soon as the needle is exposed to an unclean room, it's not sterile anymore. Same with the bottle's seal (and it wouldn't be a seal, epi breaks down unless it's kept in a glass ampoule, which means you only get one use out of it after you break it open). Even if you did everything in a cleanroom, the autoinjector is still not sterile or airtight, and the plastic syringe also contributes to the epi breaking down.
You could sterilize the area with a bunsen burner like they do in labs. It's not difficult. You set a bunsen burner so the flame is really high by not letting any air in through the bottom and giving it a high gas flow, this burns up any microbes and fungi in the air directly above the workstation. Then you sterilize your table by wiping it with concentrated alcohol. Once it's all clean, you just do all the work around the burner.

When the alternative is death, anything at all is better than nothing
when will epipen be on the slingshot channel?
Already made a handheld injector Or a long range version :v:
