The ending was a cluster fuck of smoke.
I think NASA should have put a camera on the Skycrane lowering mechanism. Once it detaches, the skycrane could have gone straight up, looking at the rover as it flies away and then fire a rocket that makes it go off course and away from the rover. Then again, that probably would have wasted half their budget. What is the song that's played in this? It sounds familiar...

If the Skycrane had a camera, it couldn't have sent more than a few frames before it crashed,
I still can't believe all that shit worked
