We have been recently greenlighted to start posting some videos around the internet, so I figure I'll start posting some of the stuff from our fellow testers here on FP and on the Closed Alpha team.
wow man the customization part is awesome
looking forward for more
Character customization hell yeh
I know it doesn't impact the gameplay at all, but being able to customize your characters looks adds so much to games for me
I'd totally recommend sending some messages on the Tripwire forums about how much you guys like the customization feature. It was something they were unsure about, and whether or not to take it further.
The customization feature is very cool, but there are some outfits that make it a bit difficult to tell whos a baddy or not.
Especially if the soldier is shirtless with a helmet on, you will probably just have to wild guess at long distances if it is an enemy or an ally.
I know it's definitely placeholder but that text-to-speech voice is fucking hilarious.

The animations will give away what team they are on.
I didnt even know a beta was going on.
I wonder if signing up now will get me in.
It's really awesome and hopefully they'll add some kind of unlockable cosmetics ( with rank ect. )
I believe this is how it will work
Right now in the beta we're all Honor level 99 so everything is unlocked

Some of the equipment is there to stay - most american classes carry an unmistakeable harness regardless of outfit, much like VC / NVA have their own, unique backpack
Also, as it was the case with RO2 / RS, each team has a unique sprinting animation. It can cause some confusion, but you can clear it up quick enough if you know what you're doing (e.g. by checking the map)

Instantly reminded me of

I just hope they make it much easier to rank up than it was in RO2/RS1.
In case anyone is wondering, helicopters really are as fun as you think they'd be.

I'm aware, but if they're crouching or standing still in cover or something, it's hard to tell.
It's a rare situation, so it's not really a huge deal, but nonetheless it can be confusing.
Most veteran players will be able to assume what faction you're looking at.
I really hope it runs better than RO2
I really hope it runs better than RO2
Considering that there seems to be a ton more foliage and larger maps your hopes and dreams are dead.
Its hard to say since its a pretty unoptomized beta atm but if you can run RO2 you can probably run this just fine.
I really hope it runs better than RO2
i think RO2 runs pretty good
Have the added Vietnamese voice acting yet or do they still use the Rising Storm Japanese placeholders? :v:
I really like the character customization. I just hope they don't take it too far as this is supposed to be if not a realistic game, at the very least an authentic game.
All of the voices are still just placeholders. Even US soldiers are just RS1 voices.
As much as I like customization, I can't help but wonder if this is a way for them to shoehorn micro transactions and crate shit into the game. While Tripwire is just publishing it, they sure are keen on that type of stuff nowadays.

REEKIN PLANE
"Objective foxtwat is being attacked"
Also those forest noises with that bird that sounds kinda like a cat-call is bringing back memories of BF Vietnam
You guys haven't heard the magic of the TTS voice going "You've driven those Gooks back into the Jungle"
You guys haven't heard the magic of the TTS voice going "You've driven those Gooks back into the Jungle"
I wonder if early RS1 alpha/beta had the same voices. Trying to imagine how "TENNOHEIKA BANZAI" would sound in TTS makes me chuckle.
Please god if you have any say in it whatsoever get them to make a better squad system, it's terrible in all three RO games.

how would you improve it?

TTS is actually only for the announcer. Characters only have RS1 death screams at the moment

Basically rip off BF2/2142/Project Reality/Squad - The squad leader makes the squad rather than selecting the role, and people are free to join/leave regardless of the role they're in. Each squad has a limited number of "special" roles IE anything other than a basic rifleman, and players would have to be in a squad to equip them (Able to assign at current spawnable flag and/or friendly-controlled ammo dumps, ideally without suiciding to have to change; And otherwise being able to spawn with them if in squad at time of doing so)
In RO2 at the very least (And IIRC RO1/DH), squads are made up of the role "slots", kinda similar to ArmA but with a terrible (And non-primary) UI. So for most people, the squad you end up in is random instead of selective.
The roles you have available should be restricted if you're not in a squad
The VOIP channels are also kinda terrible. The games sorely need local 3d positional voice in addition to the squad channel (Which should between them be the primary methods of communication), while team-wide and public should be eliminated and replaced with a squad lead/vehicle commander/CO net

The current squad system isn't that bad - you kinda need it to make sure the squads are balanced. RO2 and RS1 have always been more fast-paced and casual than Project Reality and you don't have the amount of serious players who are used to setting up dedicated asset squads, decent squad composition and so on.
Definitely needs local voice for primary though, for the close-in jungle combat feel.

They already did that.

Some of it was already implemented!
You can now be a squad leader regardless of role. It's no longer the same as RO2, where squad leader was its own role
Role limits are still team wide, so it's possible to see a squad made up of a bunch of Pointmen and Riflemen, but no Machine gunners
Selecting the squad you want to be a part of is now MUCH easier, the UI has improved a ton in that regard (I remember the RO2 squad system having you pick a role slot to fill for that squad, now you just pick your role in one list and select your squad in another)
