I agree with him up until his question of "Who's holding the microphone". I don't watch cutscenes of characters and think "Who's holding the camera"
I agree with him up until his question of "Who's holding the microphone". I don't watch cutscenes of characters and think "Who's holding the camera"
cutscenes aren't given to you in the form of VHS tapes to play though
You don't have to wait for the helicopter tho, there's a button in the menu to return to the ACC instantly.
cutscenes aren't given to you in the form of VHS tapes to play though
But it's obvious that the question of "Who's recording this" isn't important, it's clear that it's knowledge for the player, not the character. Almost every other important tape is mentioned in cutscenes or by characters with a "Give this a listen later, boss" except the tapes that are clearly just meant to progress the story [editline]21st September 2015[/editline] It's weird that he got hung up on the question of "Who's recording the convo" when he basically retconns huge parts of mgs4 himself I also don't get his complaints about the fast travel??

And box delivery basically requires you to wait for D-Horse to be called in or to have him at all times as your buddy. Otherwise you need to swap buddies all the time which means waiting for a supply drop and.... So many hoops for fast travel.
dont forget that box travel requires the enemy outpost to be completely back to normal alertness which takes ages if you went into full alert beforehand
Which is also why SBH in the video had the skit with being in the box not being able to fast travel and the "WHOOOOOO?" soundclip.
idk I never had a huge issue sneaking into most outposts and fast traveling (or usually I'd just chuck some music on and ride d-horse to the next area) but I guess I can see why it'd be a pain for some people [editline]21st September 2015[/editline] I do wish you could be picked up by a helicopter and moved to another area without a loading screen, so I'll pay that
I think the biggest fault this game has to me personally is Ocelot was completely thrown away as a character... just to end up as boring Troy Baker
Also now that I really, REALLY think about the game; if this was a Splinter Cell title or another 'spy' game it would have no doubt been a 7/10 in everyones mind.
Also now that I really, REALLY think about the game; if this was a Splinter Cell title or another 'spy' game it would have no doubt been a 7/10 in everyones mind.
I don't think so tbh, i've seen a trend tbh of people, regardless of them liking the game or not, always having over like, 70 hours in the game. Regardless of the games shortcomings, you don't spend that much time in a game unless it's darn good [editline]21st September 2015[/editline]
if the chopper area movement thing was actually efficient i'd love it but using it at motherbase is a chore, its easier to actually just go back to acc and drop into the platform you want again the chopper is slow as hell and sucks at maneuvering, and it will do a dumb spin around a platform to show it off like im in a constant e3 presentation
morpho wouldnt do this fancy shit pequod's a hack
Also now that I really, REALLY think about the game; if this was a Splinter Cell title or another 'spy' game it would have no doubt been a 7/10 in everyones mind.
But it wasn't. This game wasn't perfect, but all the crazy shit that makes MGS just that much better wouldn't have been in any other alternate IP version.
But it wasn't. This game wasn't perfect, but all the crazy shit that makes MGS just that much better wouldn't have been in any other alternate IP version.
not to mention the game isn't "james bond goes on a cool mission" its "james bond creates a PMC and tried to take revenge on an evil skeleton"
i feel like giving 40 hours to the pre-release reviewers was disingenuous for the first 40 hours the game is amazing, but past that mark you start wanting more diversity, more story that just isn't there the absurdly high ratings were more along the lines of "if the next 100 hours of the game are as exciting" than the entire game actually deserving that score
not to mention the game isn't "james bond goes on a cool mission" its "james bond creates a PMC and tried to take revenge on an evil skeleton"
If it wasn't metal gear and another title with all of the same content it would be considered a 7/8 out of 10 is what i'm saying I didnt literally have to be 'spy thing' Recently Metal Gear hit a bandwagon bump; where everyone and their mother acts like they're huge MGS fans and have to praise it after hearing other people talk so highly about previous games. There's a huge marketing issue here where everyone was pretty much told this is gonna be the best game ever, either by trailers or analysts/critics Don't get me wrong, as SBH said the gameplay is the best it has ever been but that came at the cost of interweaving story into the experience, due to all of the gameplay being open-world and open ended. After playing literally every single Metal Gear game all the way through, I can safely say this is not a Metal Gear game. It has a Metal Gear in it, and all the characters we know, but they are all tossed in without a single purpose or hint of their original character. Edit: Also why the hell does sahalanthropus, a machine; have a demon laser sword? They made the Shagohod into a tank because it fit the times. I feel like they made the game too surreal for the time it takes place in, which ruined the experience for me quite a lot. I could never get over the Skull Units because they're just so god damn unbelieveable teleporting all over the place in the 1980's, same with Sahalanthropus and his demon sword. To me, Kojima kind of threw away the identity of how the series plays out, to make it fit into the style of something like a Stanley Kubrick film, but instead of working well, the story is filled with forced; overly ~~complex~~ characters like "Skull Face" and "Quiet" (did Skull Face really need a fucking Zorro mask?)
I don't think so tbh, i've seen a trend tbh of people, regardless of them liking the game or not, always having over like, 70 hours in the game.
how long you spend on a game is not even remotely close to being a judge of it's quality
You don't spend 50+ hours on a game if it's a "7/10 its ok i guess"
You don't spend 50+ hours on a game if it's a "7/10 its ok i guess"
World of Warcraft.
You don't spend 50+ hours on a game if it's a "7/10 its ok i guess"
My point was, this game is getting 10/10 because it's Metal Gear. If it was another franchise it would have realistic ratings. Stop taking everything so literally. tbh tbh
This pretty much mirrors my opinion perfectly. The gameplay is the best in the series, and the attentions to detail are just immaculate, but the story just ultimately falls flat and feels unfinished. It doesn't feel bold or crazy like the previous games. The ending is nice, but also feels hollow. It just feels like this game could've been so much better and probably finished if Kojima had another year or two on it, but we all know that wasn't going to happen due to both fan demand and Konami being in the process of amputating all of its AAA game development limbs. Metal Gear Solid V is the perfect representation of mixed feelings in some sort of tangible package, and it also lives up to its namesake. It leaves you with a feeling of thinking there's more than what's actually there.
I agree with him up until his question of "Who's holding the microphone". I don't watch cutscenes of characters and think "Who's holding the camera"
I think he was more or less saying "who is recording this conversation that should be super secret, and why?" Does Zero just have a tape recorder and decided to start recording when [sp]Skull Face called him up and then revealed he gave parasites to him?[/sp] If so, why would he do that? Same applies to any of the other parties in super secret conversations. And most of all, how did those cassette tapes even get to Venom Snake? I mean yes, it's a game and there should be some suspension of disbelief, but it just really goes against the logic of some of the parties involved.
Metal gear is a massively popular series, it hit a bandwagon bump because it was the first major release of an MGS game since 4 (PW wasn't advertised or marketed to western audiences anywhere near as much as even MGS4) I can agree that Ocelot doesn't hold any of the old character he held, tbh he's boring as fuck in MGSV. But Kaz, Zero and Huey are all there with personalities that reflect their story arc in latter games. [sp]Kaz becoming vengeful and angry and eventually hating Big Boss, Zero actually being explained as to how he went from a goofy fuck in MGS3 to what he was in MGS4 and Huey being a spineless loser that kills himself (and almost his son) in a pool[/sp]
Edit: Also why the hell does sahalanthropus, a machine; have a demon laser sword?
I also don't get this, I agree that the tech is too much. But surely after Peacewalker you would've expected it, right? (also metal gear rays design was anime as fuck lol) [editline]21st September 2015[/editline]
My point was, this game is getting 10/10 because it's Metal Gear.
After playing literally every single Metal Gear game all the way through, I can safely say this is not a Metal Gear game. It has a Metal Gear in it, and all the characters we know, but they are all tossed in without a single purpose or hint of their original character.
this is what really disappointed me the most honestly in 3 & pw snake, ocelot, and kaz were all lovable socially awkward losers. then 9 years pass and they get all Jack Bauer'd into bitter eyepatch man, less bitter southern accent man, and especially bitter sunglasses man. no banter between snake and kaz to make them even remotely likable if you haven't played the previous games, and ocelot simply isn't ocelot. it feels like kojima went too far with being "real" that the characters lost their quirky MGS charm
I also don't get this, I agree that the tech is too much. But surely after Peacewalker you would've expected it, right? (also metal gear rays design was anime as fuck lol)
I also thought the tech in Peace Walker was too out-there as well, seeing unmanned drones with artificial intelligence fly around in soviet occupied Costa Rica* with the Glad0s voice was fucking retarded and ZEKE being essentially a better version of Rex despite being produced 40 years earlier was just ham fisted and dumb I think this falls back to what SBH said, "how being a fanboy can stop you from enjoying some things"
You don't spend 50+ hours on a game if it's a "7/10 its ok i guess"
That's a pretty silly statement, to be honest. I can think of plenty of situations where you might do so. For example, and just to use one that isn't MGSV, I beat Final Fantasy 9 a while ago. Took me about 40-50ish hours, don'r remember exactly. Upon looking back on it, judging the entire game as a whole, it's really not very good. Why did I stick with it, then? Two reasons. First, because the first half of it was fucking amazing. I'm not even a fan of JRPGs and it kept me completely engaged for the first 20 hours or so. Then it started to go downhill. Really fast. I was hoping it wouldn't keep being bad, that it would redeem itself, but it didn't, it just kept getting worse. And the second reason was that I wanted to see just how bad it could get.
I think this falls back to what SBH said, "how being a fanboy can stop you from enjoying some things"
i think the difference between a fan and a fanboy is that a fan can be critical of what they like [editline]21st September 2015[/editline]
You don't spend 50+ hours on a game if it's a "7/10 its ok i guess"
mgsv isn't mediocre. it's pretty good, but not industry breaking also 1. it cost $60 2. we have free time with nothing more enjoyable to do
World of Warcraft.
Yo, you saying WoW is "7/10 okay i guess"? Because it really is a genre defining game and pretty much well regarded as a masterpiece. They have milked the fuck out of said masterpiece though, and made it worse because of that.
Yo, you saying WoW is "7/10 okay i guess"? Because it really is a genre defining game and pretty much well regarded as a masterpiece. It's masterful in what it's discovered, developed, and put in place, but as a whole, I think it's actually less than the sum of it's parts.
I don't think so tbh, i've seen a trend tbh of people, regardless of them liking the game or not, always having over like, 70 hours in the game.
