spoilers so be careful
Shit I have this and still haven't played it.
No Dunkey for me today :(
Not plot critical, but funny optional route that's also shown in the video spoilers:
[sp]That long climb with the bird flipping at the end will always get me. Liked the fact it appeared in the Joyful again, where the long climb has a heartfelt message from the dev thanking the player, before proceeding with the same middle finger again.[/sp]
LISA's really awesome. Definitely one of the most well written games ever made, coupled with a great and unique soundtrack. It's just even more impressive it's made by one guy.
Plus the dev knows martial arts too which is super cool.

what the fuck he [sp]gave away terry[/sp]
Wonderful game. One of the few games I've played that legit made me feel like human garbage towards the end. It's basically an adult Earthbound.

It's so early on I really don't think it matters.

That's undermining the genius of the writing quite heavily. Despite comparisons there is a clear theme and message running throughout which affects everything from dialogue, enemy design, jokes and of course the soul-crushing shit that Brad goes through.
The game is one huge homage to the dev's Father (Brad is modeled after him in many ways) on top of all this. To think Undermeme got more recognition than this is abhorrent.

To be fair, Undertale is waaaay more interesting gameplay wise. Its combat system is very unique and cool while Lisa's combat is just bog-standard turn based RPG combat.

[sp]terry ends up being more powerful than brad with both arms if you level him through the whole game, though[/sp]

Terry's the best. His dialog during the game too makes it more than worth it to keep him around. [sp]Especially when coupled with Birdie's gasoline spit and Terry's Hottest Dance. Even beating that tough optional boss Satan was a breeze thanks to Terry.[/sp]
LISA is a great experience, really can't recommend it enough.
Undermeme
I still don't get why people think that Undertale is a meme game, there's like, one meme or two IIRC, the most obvious one being like half-way through the game.
It's so early on I really don't think it matters.
[sp]Terry comes back later superpowered as the Lord of Hurts with an instant kill move and fights your party if you give him up. And you deserve it you filthy monster.[/sp]

It was a unique combat system but that's about all that separated it from Earthbound. Lisa has some of the most cohesive world building, writing and humor I've seen from any game that takes cues from Earthbound. It managed to heavily separate itself on the written level and last I checked people praised Earthbound almost entirely for its unique writing and humor.

I meant it more in that Undertale just has a lot of humor that doesn't really fit what the game is about, almost random at times.
Lisa's jokes stay consistent with the tone, the events happening at that time or the way the world affects certain characters.

I interpreted 'gave away' as in 'he spoiled it'.
So nice of the no mans sky developers to give Lisa the rights to feature the box art!

i don't know if i'd call lisa's combat bog-standard, the amount of followers you can have, along with the fact that certain enemies and most bosses can permakill them really separate it from most turn based RPGs imo
i don't know if i'd call lisa's combat bog-standard, the amount of followers you can have, along with the fact that certain enemies and most bosses can permakill them really separate it from most turn based RPGs imo
I'm pretty sure you can have a bunch of followers with you in pretty much any Final Fantasy. And if anything, the boss permakill shit just makes it worse. I couldn't even finish LISA all the way because the combat both bored and frustrated me to hell so much that I didn't even want to deal with it even though I wanted to see the where the story goes.
it's so weird to see dunkey play a game that i've beaten a long time ago when that shit first came out
And if anything, the boss permakill shit just makes it worse. I couldn't even finish LISA all the way because the combat both bored and frustrated me to hell so much that I didn't even want to deal with it even though I wanted to see the where the story goes.
to me, the way some bosses [sp]mutants[/sp] permakills your party members fits the nature of the game. at least in my opinion, being able to beat a boss like that is pretty satisfying.
also AFAIK those bosses drops basically the most OP consumables in that entire game
they're pretty sparse though, and i always bring the party members i don't care about into those fights. for the most part you'll know the upcoming boss fight is going to fuck you over before you go for it.
hell, this entire game is a fucking gauntlet and there is absolutely no way you can go through the game without willingly losing shit that you think you need.
i remember one part where [sp]if you sleep at one of the campfires there's a chance one of your party members might get taken away and basically get permakilled[/sp]
[sp]terry ends up being more powerful than brad with both arms if you level him through the whole game, though[/sp]

In case you still aren't convinced, Terry eventually becomes one of the best party members in the game.
[sp]At level 25, he gains The Hottest Dance, which is objectively the best attack in the game. Couple this with Birdie and alcohol, and Terry can pretty much two-turn or three-turn everything in the game, even the toughest bosses.[/sp]
Example of that:-link to Terry scoring the biggest crit in the game on the bonus boss-
[sp]Keep in mind that other top-tier party members like Shocklord hit in the 4000's on a crit, and Brad getting near 5000 when he still has both his arms left. That is how insanely powerful Terry gets lategame.
In my run, Satan/Mike only lasted three turns of Terrymania.[/sp]
In short: Do NOT fuck with the Lord of Hints.
in addition, [sp]terry's stats and fight capability increase exponentially with each gained level to a degree beyond every other character in the game[/sp]

iirc [sp]your party members can get kidnapped on any camp, it's just that depending on the area where you slept, it will be a different gang that will kidnap them. You usually have a chance to get back your party member by paying the gang, else they'll kill your party member and you have to fight them.[/sp]
I really loved those aspects in the game, and really makes the journey of going through the game much more meaningful because every single party member can actually die or be permanently lost in some way, and you'll still be able to carry on. One of the most frustrating yet greatest parts I found in the game was the [sp]Russian Roulette part. First time is already nerve wracking as is since it's required. But if you want to get Buckets as a party member, and you have to willingly gamble between your existing party members just to get him. I know you can save scum but if you force yourself to play through the consequences, it feels really good to actually succeed without losing anyone just by sheer luck.[/sp]
[sp]Joyless run + no arms Brad + getting every single party member alive is one of the most toughest yet most rewarding gaming experience I ever played through.[/sp]
End game spoilers:
[sp]I especially love the part where your last active party members turn on you during the finale. Each having their own unique dialog, and views on Brad. I loved how some genuinely did like Brad as a friend, while others were just interested in Buddy or saving the human race, or just saw Brad as some kind of an asshole or some other selfish motive. Terry Hintz's one was particularly emotional.[/sp]

you can, but the amount and the variety of the followers you can get is pretty unmatched as far as i'm aware.
but i can understand why someone wouldn't like the permadeath stuff, though personally i love it.

[sp]Ah right, forgot about the motorcycle club guys. Plus just gonna have to mention, the mutants in LISA are seriously one of the most disturbing creations in a game. Seriously felt uneasy on every single encounter with them.[/sp]
[editline]edit[/editline]
Plus worth noting again for everyone, the soundtrack in LISA is really good.

Nice video, but when is Dunkey gonna drop his top games of 2016.
Damn, never thought I'd see the day. Always nice to see my favorite Drunk Uncle Earthbound game getting some cred/coverage.

I once went through the game as a lone asshole.
[Sp]gave up Terry, kept both hands[/sp] and basically did everything in my favor, including playing everyone to death on russian roullette and fighting all alone.
[sp]Terry[/sp] broke my neck on his first turn and I fucking died.

It plays during the ladder sequence of Metal Gear Solid 3.
