This movie made me feel so, [I]so[/I] angry.
I mean, I went in fearing the worst, but then it's like Ridley Scott just really wanted to take a sledgehammer to the entire franchise. I thought I'd have to consign Alien Vs. Predator to the "I shall pretend this does not exist" bin - I just never thought I'd end up consigning most shit from the guy who made the fucking original himself to the same bin. :frown:
Ridley Scott is the worst good director in the world at choosing his scripts.

It's not "good", but it's not as blatantly retarded as Prometheus.
Like, this one is mediocre, but Prometheus actually made me angry the more I thought about it.
There's dumb shit in this one, but at least it just feels like relatively inoffensive shlock, rather than a direct insult to our collective intelligence.

Well RS didn't write it, keep in mind. All he did was direct it according to the script.
Holy damn this movie sounds incredibly stupid as Prometheus. Can't wait to see it.

It [I]is[/I] incredibly stupid and didn't scratch any of the itches I was hoping it would scratch. As far as I'm concerned, the only recently good thing to happen to the Alien Franchise recently was Alien: Isolation. This movie, like Prometheus, is dead to me because of the sledgehammer it takes to the canon.
Well, I disagree with all the above and I'm a big Alien fan - each to their own.

I literally was saying this as I left the theater.
How the fuck did a video game capture the spirit and atmosphere of the Alien franchise better than anything Ridley Scott has made after Alien.

Interesting thing about that is that Rich and Jack hated A:I and thought it was complete garbage. They had valid reasons for hating it too and I agree with them but the bad parts of the game were a deal breaker for them while I just accepted them and trudged on through it
I'm surprised to see some people regard Covenant as a better movie than Prometheus - I thought Covenant was pretty irredeemably bad in critical places. Prometheus was a mess of a movie but I thought that was it's worst offense.
It felt like Prometheus was meant to be the start of some new spin off series that was only slightly, tangibly related to the alien series itself, then when it bombed, Covenant was made to have more alien elements to compensate.

It's not that bad. It makes all the same mistakes as Prometheus but it makes more sense here since they're not highly trained scientists just normal people. They also explain all of their equipment was for a planet they new everything about.
The first half is decent and explores interesting themes, it feel like after that the suits decided they needed an alien movie, because it literally feels like two different movies mashed together. The end result is that there just isn't enough time to build tension or fully explore, explain what it seemed like the movie was trying to achieve. That's why its bad, it isn't bad for the same reasons prometheus is imo.
With me, Isolation will always be the 3rd movie with the series beginning in Alien and ending with Aliens, its almost a cursed franchise.
