FEAR and its first expansion pack, Extraction Point, are some of the most fun FPS experiences I've ever had. Overall it's a brilliant game. It is definitely meaningful to be remembered as a great FPS that was released during an era where seemingly every release was a watery garbage FPS game.
Almost every day I wonder what would have become of FEAR if it hadn't reached the pitiful endpoint it arrived at. I can't help but wonder that with modern technology and a good dev team it might could make a triumphant return like Doom did. But it's probably better staying buried.
I remember a mod for Half-Life 2 called Smod that pretty much added all the cool features of FEAR like slow-mo, gore, particle effects, etc man, that was such a blast to play
I should really finish F.E.A.R 1 someday. I really liked the combat in it and for some weird reason I really liked the replica soldiers and their voices too.

I can imagine some dev team of people who grew up with it attempting to do it again in the next decade when they have more money/experience.
why does he keep saying 'fetelle'. it's fettel. 'fetle'. it's pronounced multiple times in the game.
I tried replaying this like, last year? It didn't run very well and I quit after the first level. I want it to run well because it's super enjoyable.

i wonder why more games arent inspired by woo films like fear was tbh john woo films basically lend themselves to game environments shit flying around everywhere, everything exploding and bullets sparking even though unrealistic is the best part of fear and honestly shooters need to make more use of technology available
I was just thinking about this game the other day. Really hope we see another game like FEAR come to life one day.
I think it'd be cool to see an indie game/a new game in general that's just like FEAR.
I have not played fear. I avoided it because I hate scary media and "FEAR" made young me stay far away from it.

I've seen people claim smoke and sparks and shit is distracting from shooting, but fuck that it gives the shooting so much flavor
I have not played fear. I avoided it because I hate scary media and "FEAR" made young me stay far away from it.
Game isn't even that scary. All it has is "spooky" setpieces pretty much, it isn't gonna haunt your dreams.
Game isn't even that scary. All it has is "spooky" setpieces pretty much, it isn't gonna haunt your dreams.
Believe it or not, some people are just incredibly oversensitive to that stuff.
I played F.E.A.R 1 for the first time recently and had a blast, the shotgun in this game is probably one of the best game shotguns out there. Only really had 2 problems with the game, namely the fact that the environments are pretty much the same for most of the game and I just hate those annoying ghost things at the end of the game
Believe it or not, some people are just incredibly oversensitive to that stuff.
Honestly the only time I ever got even slightly freaked out in the game was when you're in Armacham HQ and have to fight the assassins for the first time, and even then it was due to how fast and quiet they are and how they're in your face in 10 seconds if you're not paying attention. Also my PC at the time was a slightly okay toaster, so the bobo graphics made it hard for me to spot them. FEAR was a surprise for me. I got the director's cut on my Birthday years ago and didn't know what it was at the time, thinking it was a shovelware game or something. The only thing that sucks is that the lore of the game is screwed due to all that legal shit between the studio & devs ie "Extraction Point & Perseus Mandate never happened". & 3 was pretty meh for me. Project Origin was great though. I really need to play through them again.
Game isn't even that scary. But not even I will say Fear isnt scary, it's still a horror game and not everyone likes horror, least of all the ones that rely on jump scares.
Believe it or not, some people are just incredibly oversensitive to that stuff.
I want to call those people pussies but then I remember that even though I can deal with horror games just fine, I can't deal with horror movies at all and those are even less immersive. But FEAR isn't really a scary game, there's just action, a jumpscare, then more action. Without the horror it would still be extremely praised but it might have flown under the radar for a lot of people since scary little girls were all the rage back then
Game isn't even that scary. After that it just turns into annoying spooky visuals that break up the genuinely good combat.[/sp]
I haven't yet found a more enjoyable FPS shooter than F.E.A.R., I come back to it every few years just to feel the extremely well designed combat that feels responsive and nice.

He means it takes the tension out of the spooks specifically so that it's not as bad as some people make it out to be on the scare level. Besides, the game still throws wraiths at you to fuck with you, so even that's dubious.
The most scary one is when you get off from climbing down a ladder that faces a wall and when you turn around, Paxton Fettel is right behind you.
If I remember the demo was slightly different. At the top of the ladder when you turn to climb down you see Alma, and then when you turn around at the bottom Fettel is walking at you.

They were all hardcore players who play for the challenge instead of fun?
To this day, FEAR has some of my favorite weapon and enemy designs.
distracting from shooting? Let me guess... In FEAR it was awesome because it made it feel like the lobby scene in The Matrix when marble pillars and walls are being destroyed from all the bullets flying around
