Just seeing what wins instead of the reasoning defeats the whole purpose.
I get that it's long but what's the point in just seeing the list?
At least spoiler it first.

Can skip just to the games (or how a certain game got a certain award) that interest you.

There was no reason for a 3 hour video
There was no reason for a 3 hour video
This is the issue I have with TotalBiscuit. I love his content and regard his opinions as some of the highest, but he tends to take subjects that can be discusses in 10 minutes and stretch them out to an hour. Each of these categories can be wrapped up in only a few minutes but each nomination can be its own video.
Unlike other award shows though TB actually describes the merits of each games and why he chose what he did.
Hell Giant Bomb makes five different 3 hour long GOTY podcasts each year. It's not like long-form content is unheard of.

Yeah but their podcasts aren't just saying what the awards went to and why. The videos are long in-depth discussions between 6 people where they're doing the actual decision of what wins.

The only difference is that one is a single person discussing their reasons, and other is 6 people discussing their reasons.
At the end of it all, the Giant Bomb GOTY podcasts ARE saying what the awards went to and why. There's some debate, but it's the same goal.

He's not really discussing it though, he's just saying what the nominees were and what won. GB goes over all possible entries, discuss each one, then pick out a few nominees, discuss all those again and compare all of them in-depth and then pick one out. The podcasts are just the debate behind it, the actual announcing of what was nominated and what won are just short articles.
He's not really discussing it though, he's just saying what the nominees were and what won.
Did you watch it? He goes into full detail about every single nominee and why it was chosen, then explains why he decided on the winner.
Like the Giant Bomb stuff he explains why all the nominees are on the list, he just doesn't have 5 other people to debate it with.
He's not really discussing it though, he's just saying what the nominees were and what won.
No? He talks about every nominee for five to seven minutes as to why they're up for the award.

I do admit I didn't watch, I don't really wanna watch a 3 hour video. I feel like maybe his regular awards video should just be saying what was nominated and what won and then it'd make more sense to have a separate video that's titled as the discussion and reasoning behind it.
I wouldn't have a problem with the > 1 hour long videos if he didn't have such a serious problem with repeating his points.
He will make a point and then he repeats that same point with a different strain of words; hell, sometimes he doesn't even change the words, he just repeats the exact same sentence 2 minutes later and it gets incredibly strenuous after like 15 minutes.
He'll also make a point and after short periods of time he'll repeat the same point. Hell, sometimes he doesn't even change the words, he just repeats the exact same sentence 2 minutes later.
Over time it gets quite tedious.

I don't think you're taking into account how people get paid on youtube now, and the also the length of last year's video.
I watch basically everything on youtube at 2x speed. I don't think I could stand it otherwise.
It sucks TB barely posts content anymore , it makes it hard to care about his opinion enough to watch an hour long video.
Nice to see Slain get some love. I can't understand what they were thinking at launch. It should have been an early access game.

If it was their first game ever it doesn't surprise me as much. It's amazing how much basic shit a sentient human is able to fuck up without experience.

TB has this consistent criticism about how AAA gaming doesn't respect our time and just eats it with filler, it always struck me hypocritical because he never puts the effort into his videos to cut down his opinions into a concise and watchable amount of time, as a result his content doesn't respect his viewer's time.
[editline]1st January 2017[/editline]
I'm going to share this here, because it's the same sort of awards format but it's 20 minutes rather than nearly 4 fucking hours long:

A lot of YTers have been doing this (and if I had the time and had played enough games to have an actual list of nominees for actual categories, I'd have made my own) so it's not like TB is the only place to go for a decent gaming awards show.

Not really, he often mentions that as a games critic and a working adult he doesn't have that much time to spend on a single game and therefor personally values short games of good quality over games with a lot of filler content - but it's never been about "AAA games not respecting our time", and so I think your idea that his content is hypocritical is wrong. I agree that TB does tend to ramble a lot, repeating things, but that's sorta what you get when watching his non-scripted monologue pieces and very arbitrary awards.

AAA games or games in general, he has expressed that he wants his games to be all killer with no filler and be shorter with a larger focus on quantity over quality. I don't care why specifically. As for his rambling and all that, it's turning me more and more off his content, it's largely filler with little killer and ends up mostly quantity over quality.

That's fine, I also don't sit down to watch his longer pieces either cause they tend to bore me - I just watch the co-optional podcast for the laid back discussions.

It gets a bit much when he starts discussing how doom is still relevant in 2016 compared to the 90s, its development issues and much more...
When the award is meant to be for the soundtrack.
Even on the aesthetics award, he was saying things along the lines of "I'm giving it to this one because it did other things besides aesthetics better than the other choices" and talking about something irrelevant to the award. I guess it is called the arbitrary awards but It was beyond boring I went and did something else after the second one.
Great for having in the background while you do something else, which I usually do with his long videos.

Might be he did the 3 hour long vid on purpose - youtube gives out money for the amount of viewed rather than simply checking out the video.
That is, of course, if he monetizes his videos.
TB has said multiple times in the past that his videos are long so people can just put them in the background while doing other things. It's nothing new.

Not to mention, it's an awards SHOW and he presents it as such. I expected it to be lengthy and i enjoynthe fact that it is and have been using it as background noise for the majority of my day.
