I think this is in the wrong section.
And late.
And everyone who cares is already busy going for each other's throats in the other thread.
Moving to video section
good thing Reddit was not really my thing
I like reddit for the game specific reddits because even older games usually get some form of activity or attention that they don't in other places.
lol this definitely isn't "the end of reddit"
it's still stupid though
bohoo i can't be a fucking cunt on my favorite website anymore!
how dare the reddit staff try to improve the website's reputation!
also, banning harassment isn't the same as banning differing opinions. shitting on fat people isn't some valid, worthwhile opinion that needs to protected. it's just being an asshole. freedom of speech doesn't need to include harassment and hate speech, and reddit has the right as an independent website to reasonably limit it. if you want to argue in some thread on another subreddit that fat people are fat because they're lazy, i'm sure you can do so as long as you word it so it's not blatant harassment. this isn't censoring opinions, it's stomping out assholes who drag the website down. if your life is so fucking dedicated to being an insufferable prick, just go make a fat shaming board on 8chan or make a thread about in 4chan's /fit/ or /fa/. I've seen numerous threads on those boards about fat shaming and nobody gets banned for them.
Sorry that reddit doesn't want to be some kind of edgy "do as you wish" website like 4chan or 8chan anymore.
One day the Internet will have to decide between creating safe spaces for everyone to speak their minds or places with absolute freedom to post possibly hateful things.
But that's not true at all, since the fat haters probably found a reddit clone to go hate fat people in.
So this isn't a big deal.
Who cares? We're more restricted here than on Reddit.

I prefer some quality control

I've never seen anyone get shadowbanned for saying Garry's a shit
So in some ways, we aren't
the solution is pretty simple, make a new internet forum
:O
[editline]11th June 2015[/editline]
really though i don't get the entitlement some people feel, it's an internet forum, if you don't like it then don't use it?
forums have come and gone over the years, it's bound to happen
I've never seen anyone get shadowbanned for saying Garry's a shit

Nobody got shadowbanned for saying Ellen Pao is a shit so...
uh yeah, ok
call me when they make a forum for racists, oh that will NEVER HAPPEN
Stormfront and 8chan.
There is no end to places for awful people to meet
Reddit does not want to be that kind of place anymore, and they seem to be willing to lose thousands of users over it
Last time it was a borderline illegal creepshots subreddit and they didnt want to remove it but caved in the end. This time, it was just hurting some peoples feels and other people's forum reputations they wanted to protect. Oh how reddit has changed.

See, I would totally agree with you on a lot of this but there is some contrary evidence. You're right, FPH is a bunch of insufferable assholes, there's no doubt about that. And you're right, shitting on fat people isn't really valid. But then look at the rest of reddit and some of the subreddits that exist... /r/MorbidReality, /r/beatingwomen2, /r/CoonTown, /r/TheRedPill, /r/picsofdeadkids, /r/sexyabortions, /r/spacedicks, /r/deadbabies, /r/deadpeople, and more. Not to mention, any of the new subreddits that have spawned out of this drama are being banned as well, even if they are trying to follow the rules of harassment, they are being banned anyways... That is banning differing opinions, if you ask me. Even subreddits that had the same train of thought as /r/fatpeoplehate, like /r/fatlogic that was basically a much more tame and accepting version of FPH was banned even though it had no history of harassment. (edit: this is wrong, my bad. /r/fatlogic looked banned from the mobile version of reddit.)
A lot of people are more angry at the fact that Ellen Pao, the interim CEO of Reddit, is using her authority to make her website more likable for money. I know, I know, that's what businesses and CEOs do, try and make money, but it's a bit different. She is trying to make money to pay back the debt her husband owes for his failed Ponzi scheme ($2.7mil, if I remember correctly), and also to pay back her lawyer for her court case she lost that she brought up because she claimed to be discriminated against at her previous place of work as a woman but was proven wrong. She's a shitty person that does not deserve any defense.
Oh, and also. http://www.8ch.net/fatpeoplehate/

Rules are a lot more consistent here. You're judged from your own actions and not from the ideology you hold. The staff also doesn't redefine terms.

Where do you think you are? Because it's definitely not Facepunch.

I didn't say purely consistent. :v:

I highly doubt the members of /leftypol/ are racist.
"Reddit Revolution"
wow.
huh
i thought half the point of reddit was you could talk about anything as long as it was relevant to the board you were on?
i mean, if you don't want to read about people who hate fat people or whatever, you can just not read that subreddit, right?

Their posts bled out of the FPH subreddit and into others, even going so far as to target specific people with harassment both on and off of reddit.
get rid of leredditarmy
Their posts bled out of the FPH subreddit and into others, even going so far as to target specific people with harassment both on and off of reddit.
Yeah, so then they're breaking the rules. So you ban them, then and there.
As long as they stick to their little nest of shit though, I don't see the harm. And while you can argue that they give all of Reddit a bad reputation, and that's pretty much true, they also give the place a, in my opinion, much stronger positive reputation as being a place of freedom, where you can talk about anything you want, even if it's fucked up.
Then again, they already messed up that reputation pretty hard with the whole gamergate thing I suppose.
Stormfront and 8chan.
It's run by a crippled Jew, so it's not exactly the scawee spookee nazi forum you think it is. Dragging any of that crap outside of /pol/ will get you laughed out of the board.
