If they're so god damn worried about laying off employees, why don't they cut down on their billion dollar salary for the lower workers...
If they're really passionate about their work then they would actually be glad that lots of people are pirating their stuff. Otherwise, they only care about the money [editline]23rd December 2011[/editline] And I find it funny how it's only the higher level staff that are bitching about this. It's as if they're afraid of losing a few thousand off of their 70-120 thousand dollars a year salary
Hollywood should start giving less money to famous Hollywood actors if they have trouble financing their films.
Fucking deal with it. Listen, if consumers are not willing to pay for your good/service then they will not. They act as if they've been victimized by pirates, but it's obvious that people who are pirating this stuff are not willing to pay for it in the first place at the price it is offered. This is not an issue of us taking a product, it is an issue of people sharing a product. Pirates do not take an item, they copy it. This is a large difference that they're missing. A consumer who buys a pirated product is looking for a product available for a lower price than what is offered, as well as for convenience- something these people do not offer, and therefore they suffer economically. Look at Netflix- they can not offer goods at a price worth paying for many users any longer, and they suffered economically. Did Netflix complain that people shouldn't use Hulu, shouldn't use Blockbuster? Did they fight for Congress to pass bills that prevent competition? I can understand their concern with physical knock-offs or cheap remakes of their products, but if these are making money and at a lower quality, then it seems to me that their process of making it exact to specification and then charging it as such is not efficient, as the demand for such a product is lower than for the demand of a cheaper-made, cheaper-priced knock off. You want to fix that? The compete you dipshits! Make cheaper versions and sell them for cheaper! And they have the damned balls to support SOPA and PROTECT IP, which are two of the most heinous idiotic and despotic bills out there in terms of internet freedom. They're willing to crush creativity and sharing on the internet to continue to reap profit for their creativity? Fuck off. If your product is failing and you are unable to compete in contemporary markets using contemporary means, then it's not the job of lawmakers to take your side and crush the consumers and the pirates and the internet users simply to comply with your needs.
I don't care if Spongebob dies. He died a looooong time ago.

Ha, Viacom can't conclusively prove that piracy caused even one person to lose their jobs. It's all bullshit to line their money-grubbing pockets. Do they really think that if piracy were made impossible, they would suddenly make tens of billions more money the next day? Please...
I cant wait for SOPA.
Guys (in the video). You need to get it that PIRATING DOES NOT HURT SALES. If someone is pirating they allready made the decision NOT TO BUY YOUR PRODUCT.
what is this 6 minutes of bullshit. fuck the big companies and industries. i've been disappointed by everything they've made. Woody Allen's gonna exist big industry or no big industry. and studies by people who aren't paid by large special interest groups show that the economy would actually suffer from the passing of SOPA. the movie and music industry suck, it just rapes artists and takes all their money.
What about all the people's jobs that would be ruined if SOPA passed?
It's a low price to be payed (the death of spongebob, I mean)
What if someone illegaly downloads your products and ends up liking it enough to actually buy a copy? What if they did want to buy your product and then were turned off to the idea because it was too expensive?
"Piracy is hurting our business this and that.." Go tell that to Mr. Newell and Steam. And as Gabe said: The only way to beat piracy is offering a better service than them. I usually don't buy movies because Netflix is shit in central america, can't be arsed to drive to blockbuster and original dvds are bloated with stupid-ass trailers you can't skip. The movie and music industry are stupidly inflated, if they cut back on salaries to movie stars, directors and such, I'm pretty sure they could offer cheaper products, better experiencies, and an overall better online distribution system, thus returning to profitability. But that won't happen while they keep on being a bunch of money-grabbing cunts.
Every single company/product in this video, I am gonna boycott. Or at least try my best. "If you want this quality of product- we can't do it for free!" Oh, fuck off. I think the MTV "News" guy said that.
Guys (in the video). You need to get it that PIRATING DOES NOT HURT SALES. If someone is pirating they allready made the decision NOT TO BUY YOUR PRODUCT.
Well, it can lose some sales, yes, but definitely nowhere near the numbers they're quoting. See; the people going 'Pff, if I can get it for free, I'll get it for free.'
Content makers need to adapt, with the rise of the internet they can't expect to still be able to sell DVDs at £15 a piece. Take Louis C.K.'s latest thingymabob, he was selling his latest video for $5 with no DRM, and he still made as much, if not more, money than he would have done by selling it through the usual methods. And that was just on the internet.
There are four types of pirates. The ones who would buy a game/movie but pirate it instead, those are the lost sales. There are those who wouldn't buy it for that price but they would play/watch it for free, no lost sales. There are those who try out the full version and see if they like it and then they buy it, lost sales if the product doesn't live up to the advertisement. Boo fucking hoo those people won't be screwed by false advertisement. Think of it as watching a movie/playing a game and then deciding whether it's worth the money or not. And there are those who would buy the original but get the pirated copy instead because the legitimate one is worse than the cracked one. Shit DRM, unskippable 30 minutes long ads and so on. The people from the second group weren't going to buy it anyway, lost sales from the third and fourth group are your own fucking fault. Don't put everyone in the first group, the world is not so simple.

Additionally, if they didn't put adverts in for something you've PAID FOR It makes me laugh when the film industry is surprised at how many people pirate movies, and yet they put adverts on the DVD you buy. Greed makes people insane and or stupid
They put this up on the internet... They do know people have brains right?
"It's wrong to steal a 30 cent pack of gum, it's a felony to steal a $30,000 car, but nobody blinks an eye when a $30,000,000 movie is stolen." That line in particular made me laugh. It makes it sound like movies are on the shelves with a $30,000,000 price tag.
Viacom, Bitch Please. Piracy. Is. Not. Lost. Sales.
The SOPA is a waste of time and money. Trying to stop online piracy is like trying to get Gabe Newell to work on Episode 3

I can see where the people are coming from, but viacom themselves just want the dosh to splash it on themselves since they're money greediness bastards.
I cant wait for SOPA.
Same here. The riots are going to be fantastic.
go looting when they happen
Greedy people's cries.
Oh no that sucks bye Spongebob
This is such a big, dramatic pile of shit that it almost hurts to watch. It's beyond obvious to anyone who has even has a vague idea of how piracy works - that these people are either spewing pure bullshit or are so misinformed themselves. All the potential threats of shows not continuing, as well as trying to write off all these people in the media -who make a salary in the upper six digits- as good guys is just hollow at best. It was literally emotionally painful to watch how backwards this was, especially due to how sentimental they tried to make it. Viacom somehow thinks the entire population is stupid - that they don't remember that Viacom has taken down videos on Youtube that they don't even own the rights for, or even harmless things. That this same company goes absolutely bonkers about people pirating the shitty drivel we call modern movies. We all already know this fact quite well - if I wasn't gonna buy it, then I wasn't gonna buy it; and that's why I pirated it. The economy is in a rut and they still expect people to shovel out full price for the terrible movies and shows that keep coming out. We pirate them not because we want to hurt the company (yet), but because we're not prepared to pay full price for something that may be absolute trash. I'd certainly rather use my hard, manual-labor earned money on my own survival and friends long before giving them to companies that already make insane sums of money. On top of this, in almost every video fighting piracy, they correlate said piracy to unrelated things in a vain effort to bolster their point. It has nothing to do with knock-off brands. It has nothing to do with child labor. It has nothing to do with some evil, spooky Russian guy stealing all their money somehow. You want to fight piracy? Valve's been doing it easily for years. All you have to do is offer better service. There's no smoke, mirrors and magic. You just make a good product and give good service - and that's it, you're done. I would never even dream about pirating a Valve game if I was low on money, or even any games on Steam, because I support the model so much. You fight piracy by making your consumers into fans and not enemies or walking wallets. I just don't think Hollywood will ever get that into their heads.
