One of the better video game reviewers in my opinion.
I've always been interested in this game since it has the entire continent but I don't think I could easily become immersed with the dated graphics and ridiculous controls.
i found daggerfall to be much more fun than arena.

there's an option to either use the old crpg mouse movement or to use the mouse to look around and then pressing a button to change between cursor and freelook mode. it works well.
looks like it still more bigger then some games today...
love this guy

It is MUCH larger.
Because its flat. And uses 2d sprites. There are only so many 2d sprites you can put in a single spot.
Daggerfall was roughly 62 square miles. Morrowind was 9.8 or 6.2 square miles depending on who you go by. Oblivion is pretty standardly said to be 16 square miles. Skyrim is probably as large as Oblivion or larger.
Arena was ~25 megabytes. Daggerfall was ~50 Megabytes. Morrowind was ~1 gigabyte. Oblivion was ~4.6 gigabytes. Skyrim was ~6 gigabytes.
I think Arena is bigger than Daggerfall map-size-wise.
Much of daggerfall was randomly generated, as is Arena, hence why they are so gigantic. It would take forever to complete every possible dungeon/whatever on the first two games.

You're WAY off, Daggerfall was roughly 487,000 square miles.

There are conflicting estimates because you can't just say 'oh its this size', but last I heard Bethesda helped estimate 62.6 square miles. Some wikis say 62,000 square miles (the other most common estimate). I've never heard of your estimate ever.
Tod Howard said Daggerfall was 0.01% of Morrowind, and the estimates and calculations for Morrowind are either ~6 or 9.8 square miles. So even then that is 98,000 square miles or 62,000 square males (that is where that number comes from). But I have no idea where you got 487,000 square miles unless you mean to say Morrowind is 487 square miles.
The estimates are always off because scale, player speed vs real life speed, and in-game time versus real life time are different.
For example in Oblivion I think in-game time is 15x or 30x faster than real life time. I think skyrim is 10x faster. Not sure about the earlier games.
I think you can download Arena and Daggerfall free from The Elder Scrolls' website.
I haven't gotten into them because I've been busy with other games.

I got it from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daggerfall#Game_world
The source it quotes: http://www.bethsoft.com/eng/games/games_daggerfall.html
Starting off in Daggerfall can overwhelm the senses. No other game has such a huge world to explore. Travel around a land mass twice the size of Great Britain, exploring dungeons, castles, tombs, and even alternative dimensions.
