Quack quack.
has science gone too far
has science gone too far
not far enough imho
I had a baby duck years ago but it got sick unfortunately
We had a female duck who would lay eggs and sit on them all the time. So we replaced them with fertilized chicken eggs and one chick hatched. She accepted it and took care of it, but unfortunately several days later we found the chick floating dead in a bucket of water. Few months later a fox killed and dragged away the duck. There is a tragic story for all my pets :(
stop telling sad animal stories this is a cute thread only
I work with chickens and ducks myself, every time a batch of chickens (or turkeys) hatch we have to isolate them along with their mothers because of all the pools and accessible bodies of water we have that they can drown in. Never seen a hen as friendly as the one in the video. Ours are adorable but they're scared shitless of humans.
i didnt know a chicken could be so visibly confused
i didnt know a chicken could be so visibly confused
we got four chickens over the summer for our shed-turned-coop. they have a lot more personality than you'd expect when they line up on the perch in the coop when it gets dark I like to pap them like a feathery drumset
Goddamn, I just went and watched every video on this channel. Everyone else should, too. This guy hatched and raised a Japanese quail from a supermarket egg and it's the best thing.
the hardships of adoptive parenthood: dealing with your kids trying to eat your eyelids

There is a tragic story for all my pets :(
Foxes are the bane of owning ducks/chickens, no matter how much protection we gave our chickens the foxes would always find a way to get to them, be it jumping fences, digging into runs ect. After losing some 20 hens and years of upgrades, the last few ended up living in essentially a mobile chicken fortress with a meter of slate around the outside. It still needed moving every week or so on account of the frequent tunnelling attempts the foxes continued to make :ohno:
I freaked out for a moment when the duck picked the eye of the hen
I love chickens so much. Underrated animals in my opinion, outside of a plate.
I love chickens so much. Underrated animals in my opinion, outside of a plate.
Aye. They're amazing, yet damn tasty beasts, but it's a shame that so many kids only ever really see them on their plate with roast potatoes or coated in batter and gravy. Family used to own chickens, a long time ago. Even modified an old shed to act as a coop for when night rolled around. I forget when we gave them away, though. LONG time ago.
Most local region's ban chickens and other livestock, however chickens can be fun to house and feed they are interesting creatures that often clean my shed of mice. But what's the strangest thing about chickens is roasters. They crow about 6.00 am in the morning when most people wake up and are going to work but somehow having an animal version of the alarm cloak is a bad thing?
My neighbor has a rooster. Fucker crows at any old time except in the morning.

Beautiful birds, majestic.
I hoped that the answer was yes and it was great video
Chickens are the best damn thing. Anyone that hasn't raised them before should definitely consider it, if you have the space to properly care for them. When they're babies, they're just the cutest thing. They grow up fast though.
I already knew the answer to the question as one of our own hens hatched and raised two ducks herself. Adorable and heartwarming af watching a bird adopting another kind of bird and raising them :)
Oh my, ducklings are the cutest thing ever

I would've thought something like that would have been impossible, but it worked. It fucking worked. The chicks ended up getting bigger than her, and she was still teaching them how to dig and such.

If you're gonna get chickens I recommend getting em pretty young, the ones I have were all egg laying age or on the cusp of it so I don't think they imprinted on me at all, they're pretty terrified of me.
