While dashcon was the most hilarious trainwreck I've seen come out of tumblr, this video was overflowing with stereotype 4chan/reddit gamergate-brand-anti-SJW wankery and some of the jokes felt harder to sit through than the actual event it was a wild ride watching the posts flow in as people slowly realized they'd been taken for a ride several times over back in the day, the internet detectivery pretty much nailed down everything you see in this video before the con had even ended. The community at large knew it was a garbage prospect but the tumblr dumb-fandom-stereotypes ("superwholocks" at the time) were the big demographic, especially since welcome to nightvale was invited. Homestuckers were also prevalent but they just kind of show up to conventions no matter what and don't give a shit about what's going on, as long as they can hang out somewhere all painted up. (sidenote, they're well known at a few cons in this area for fucking up hot tubs by wearing clothes and body paint in them) to this day people constantly joke about the whole charade, from ballpit costumes at other cons, to stuff like this [t]http://i.imgur.com/oSh12ZU.png[/t]
christ I knew it was bad but I didn't think it was that bad. I'm sure that there are some good individuals that use tumblr but it cannot be taken seriously as a whole.

Dashcon didn't fail because of whatever SJW nonsense people like to associate with the website, but because the organizers threw a shitty con together out of absolutely nothing and did not put in any real effort.
I'm sure that there are some good individuals that use tumblr but it cannot be taken seriously as a whole.
According to Alexa it is the 38 most used site in the world, and 20th in the US. Generalizing of any kind is pretty pointless at that number of users. I don't use it, but it is silly to think this cherry picked video of a low-attendance, massive failure of a convention that had nothing to do with Tumblr officially is representative of the average user. Like person11 said, it didn't fail because "oh that's tumblr for ya" it failed because it was horribly managed.
It's really strange being one of the people that went to this. It was the first convention I ever went to so I guess I didn't have any standards, but even then it seemed kinda shady. It was a weird feeling seeing it blow up on the internet a few days after being there.
Oh god, 2014. Back when Bronys and Homestuck were still things. But yea, I've never seen a meetup for any website turn out good unless less than 20 people showed up.
So... did someone actually piss into the ball pit?
Yessir.
Yessir.
Is that a confession!? How could you!
Dashcon didn't fail because of whatever SJW nonsense people like to associate with the website, but because the organizers threw a shitty con together out of absolutely nothing and did not put in any real effort.
the organizers fucked up and started scamming people for more money, alongside not paying several guests (like welcome to nightvale, who decided to just not show up as a result). There was a point they told attendees they had to raise several thousand dollars in cash to pay the hotel fee or the con would be shut down, and they actually managed to gather it. The hotel denied that this fee existed I had a similar experience with another con in Chicago, though it was a few hotel staffers who were the scammers. They told the con organizers they wouldn't take the check and had to get cash for the hosting fees on the first day, only for the con chair to call the bank and find the check had already cleared. Bunch of people got fired [editline]e[/editline] I should elaborate, the organizers verified the claim before even considering paying, it was sorted without losing cash and the hotel people were fired for it. The hotel itself was in disrepair due to an asbestos and mold problem, my room had half the wallpaper torn out. The hotel was shut down a year or two later, and the con never tried to relocate, dying with it.
Christ was it 2014? It feels like it happened so recently.
Christ was it 2014? It feels like it happened so recently.
Could have sworn it was 2016, or 2015 at earliest. Good god
Is that a confession!? How could you!
:worried:
Christ was it 2014? It feels like it happened so recently.
feels like it happened ages ago. [editline]22nd February 2017[/editline] also this video is pretty garbage too.
feels like it happened ages ago. [editline]22nd February 2017[/editline] also this video is pretty garbage too.
I thought everything was pretty funny :saddowns:
I thought everything was pretty funny :saddowns:
I thought it was pretty funny too. I didn't really see anything 'delegitimizing LGBT', mostly just picking fun on tumblr, which admittedly is kind of beating a dead horse at this point.
Yeah the little inbetween jokes and deligitimizing LGBT stuff could go
How did this video deligitimize anything?
Well that was cringey as all hell. The only thing I had to go from Dashcon is this video and some piss.
This was actually pretty interesting. I knew it was a failure but I didn't know they basically stole from people.
Oh man I remember watching this train wreck unfold.
I thought it was funny. Yall niggas need to grow a thicker skin.
I thought it was funny. Yall niggas need to grow a thicker skin.
What's that supposed to mean. I'm thin skinned because I didn't like some of the more meme-y jokes?
How did this video deligitimize anything?
this was half a step short of making the average "I identify as a trigender attack helicopter" comment, for starters [t]http://i.imgur.com/kBQhkzA.png[/t] and then there's the constant barrage of footage of fat/weird sjws in other situations mixed in with ugly cutouts of sarkeesian. While he's reporting internet history he's also just taking the time to be a shitter about garbage tropes
this is half a step short of making the average "I identify as a trigender attack helicopter" [t]http://i.imgur.com/kBQhkzA.png[/t] and then there's the constant barrage of footage of fat/weird sjws in other situations mixed in with ugly cutouts of sarkeesian.
this was half a step short of making the average "I identify as a trigender attack helicopter" comment, for starters [t]http://i.imgur.com/kBQhkzA.png[/t] and then there's the constant barrage of footage of fat/weird sjws in other situations mixed in with ugly cutouts of sarkeesian. While he's reporting internet history he's also just taking the time to be a shitter about garbage tropes
Well it's Tumblr, those tropes apply, to a point those stereotypes aren't wrong. Plus, the pictured screencap only features one illegitimate thing on it, the only thing that is supposed to be funny about it is the abbreviation, so what's wrong? How is it one step short of attack helicopters?
this was half a step short of making the average "I identify as a trigender attack helicopter" comment, for starters [t]http://i.imgur.com/kBQhkzA.png[/t] and then there's the constant barrage of footage of fat/weird sjws in other situations mixed in with ugly cutouts of sarkeesian. While he's reporting internet history he's also just taking the time to be a shitter about garbage tropes
I don't know, the video is remarkably tame compared to other videos on the topic. All those terms are legitimate terms used by the LGBT community, it's more satire on how ridiculous some of the LGBT acronyms can get and the number of them too. There really isn't a 'constant barrage' in the video, most are just photos and footage from Dashcon.
"We're all gonna sigh together" Jesus christ, dude. That gimme back my money guy's got it right.
Interviewer: "So why did you dress up as the President of Israel for this Con?" Guy cosplaying Satan: "Well, they say dress up for the job you want" Genius.
