FUCK YEAH! This is exactly what I think. I absolutely think comedians are our modern day philosophers.
I swear I don't have a natural instinct to insult and belittle people but I admit the politics of this year have brought it out in me something fierce it's tough to have a nice civil debate with people who want to send me to the gas chambers, I guess [editline]12th October 2016[/editline] if there's any chance that someone will listen to what I'm saying I genuinely try my hardest to see their point of view!
FUCK YEAH! This is exactly what I think. I absolutely think comedians are our modern day philosophers.
quite a number of comedians are the opposite of this and base their acts around the other side of the political fence being "idiots"

I feel it's the same problem with the candidates themselves. Last debate, anytime they spoke to each other or had a dialogue with each other, it was about attacks on their past actions and anytime they talked about issues, it would be a premeditated, memorized speech off their website they would deliver straight into the camera. Never any discussion, never actually listening to the other side just to see if you could learn something.
I must admit that sometimes the pure, distilled stupidity of the things I read by people clearly at different parts of the political spectrum makes me begin to consider them and their ilk total fucking idiots in that moment, despite how much I know that's not really a great attitude to have. As someone that's heavily into history I particularly despise it when people get history completely wrong and use it to suit their political agenda, e.g certain self-declared Brexit experts who think the UK entering the European Common Market in the 70's caused prices to go up, and completely ignore the fact this was at a time when Bretton Woods was abandoned, there was an oil crisis and a huge recession within the span of about 5 years. I mean that's not to say I haven't seen my fair share of idiots on the opposite political wing, this year I saw someone use the words "intergenerational privilege" unironically and I frankly died a little inside.
This is actually a pretty big issue that nobody really talks about. Especially on the east and west coasts. It's honestly easier to just steer clear than deal with all the drama, anger and theatrics. Not worth making enemies when you don't have to.
The problem is literally everyone I know that's either pro trump or super anti-hillary (voting GJ or not voting) gets super defensive if he's even questioned and start exclaiming wild bullshit because they're 6 conspiracies deep on infowars
quite a number of comedians are the opposite of this and base their acts around the other side of the political fence being "idiots"
I appeared on a podcast specifically talking about this. I recall being terribly annoyed by it all as a little kid growing up around people who thought Bush was an opportunity to consistently fail at comedy. Other liberals, when outspoken, tend to be annoying as hell.
Honestly, this election is different. I'll respect people, and we should all respect each other, but at some point we need to cut through this equivalence bullshit. But yes, calling someone a moron is not the way to do it.
