Alot of blood, you've been warned. Never been a real fan of wrestling, but these guys are insane when it comes to what they'll do for their fans.
Of course it's fucking CZW. They have their own dedicated segment on Botchamania because of all the shit they pull. Anyway, can't have a thread talking about them without a proper introductory lever pull. Proceed.
This shit is why I just cannot subscribe to the "it's fake" thing. It's choreographed, and the story lines are made up, sure, but no one can truly look at this and tell me that it doesn't really hurt.

The part where the guy has that metal thing lodged in his skull as people are trying to pull it out made me cringe, fuck that. Also it's scripted like Jackass, because if it wasn't you'll have people dying left and right if you just had huge men duking it out with glass, nails and bats for the sake of it. Doesn't make the pain any less real.
I think the use of fake references that the outcomes are predetermined. Is a football game where you know both teams have scripted plays and the winner is already chosen very entertaining? Their actions may be real, but a lot of the appeal is lost and I think you could call that a "fake" match. Pro-wrestling rides a lot on the drama and plot, and it's definitely not for everyone.
Going up to a wrestling fan and saying "you know it's fake right" is like walking up to a horror movie fan and saying "you know they're not actually getting killed right". It's missing the point. That said deathmatch wrestling like CZW is gross and I don't see the appeal at all. I enjoy foreign objects in wrestling and the occasional blood but not too much, that's just nuts. I wouldn't say wrestling is fake. Predetermined or staged is a better term. Wrestlers have to be actors, orators, stuntmen and more, all rolled up into one. There's a lot of skill and passion involved.
tbh I consider wrestling to be a subgenre of theater
I could never get into Deathmatch wrestling. Hardcore matches are enough for me. They have the right amount of blood and violence without getting disgusting.
thats what everyone means when they say fake didnt get the memo 15 years ago?
That's what I'm saying. Pointing out that it's fake is pointless. This may have rocked someone's world in the 70s or 80s, but this is common knowledge now. Using it as a criticism of pro wrestling as a whole is silly. Nearly all media is "fake" in some way. Besides, no one watches pro wrestling to see a legit sport. They mainly watch it for the spectacle and the feats of athleticism. As far as hardcore wrestling goes, ECW was enough for me. I get that they're trying to put on a show, but there really is no need to be so senselessly violent and dangerous, especially since pro wrestling shortens one's lifespan enough already. I'm thankful Mick Foley can even still walk with the ridiculous shit he's done.
I love how even though they bank on having the violence kicked up a notch, all the elements of mainstream wrestling are there. It's not just watching guys kick eachother into panes of glass or drive ikebana spike-plates into their heads. "What's the craziest weapon you've seen a fan brin-" "gun."
