Wow, that's pretty incredible. Albeit $175 is a bit much for something you could lose that easily.
Would instabuy if cheaper

A geiger counter must be too big to fit into the device. But you have free ports, and you can link whatever counter you want to it.
You link a geiger counter and let the device record data :D

There's actually an app that works kind of similarly to a geiger counter that just requires you to cover your camera lens with a bit of tinfoil. It's not 100% accurate, but is pretty good.
Here's a video of it. Skip to 8:30 or so for actual testing compared to her gamma scout.

they need to add accelerometer too.
they need to add accelerometer too.
Most smart phones can do that with a gps like app.
But in regards to the video, this is how a smart phone should be. I don't want to pay a ton of money to play a little video game and use a calender feature with internet access.

how does this work?
It says in the video. Apparently radiation causes flickers in your camera feed when you're camera is open, so you tape over your camera with some tin foil and black tape and walk around pointing the camera at stuff and if its radioactive it will track the flickers and give you graphs and numbers.
It's a CCD chip, if oyu read this article you should understand how it works:
