A funny video showing how fake tech-support over the phone can acquire credit card info from those who are ignorant. Worth a watch
Wow, that was actually really good. Definitely better than the usual "play stupid and curse at them near the end" tech support prank calls. Holzman played it really well, maturely, and the part about Indian culture, Hinduism, and karma was brilliant. It just reminds you that the people doing these scam calls actually live real lives, and many times, it's their only way to earn a living. I don't find it hard to believe that anyone showing an interest in India to the representative is true; few genuinely care about the country a scam support representative is from, so his surprise in the consumer displaying it sounded almost heartfelt. Even if it was a simple scam support recording, it really gives you a new perspective on the life these guys are living.
That was great. Most if not all of carey's videos are very good.

His talking about Hinduism and such means jack shit to the person on the other end of the line. There's a prevailing belief in India that while American stuff is generally considered pretty cool, Americans themselves are viewed as rather stupid and/or ignorant. These people rationalize what they do along the lines of "A Fool and his money are easily parted." People who generally enter this profession of scamming other people do this because its easy money to them. There is, often times, no desperation along the lines as what you've described. When call centers first started in India, it became an easy way out for Engineers to take a relatively easy job with a much higher starting pay compared to the completely oversaturated market for engineers where you work for peanuts and are in stiff competition to climb up the ladder - all this for the trade off of working odd hours. These guys created a whole new breed of people with more money than sense and generally took the job to keep up appearances with their more successful peers. For a brief while, I too was a call center guy, when I was doing my undergrad. Then, when I earned the money I wanted (I actually wanted to get my mom a nice birthday gift), I quit and went back to freelancing logo designs for people around town. The call center guys are generally told to never, ever acknowledge their Indian origin when on a call with a customer. I had a fun exchange a while ago when verifying my details for Orange when I was in the UK and it turned out the other guy was a call center guy from Delhi - we chatted for a bit of hindi, he said he'd take care of it and that was that. But I doubt he'd do the same thing for anyone else. For customers, you're not Raj, not Deepak, not Sunil - you will always be Toby, Keith or Jeffrey. You never drop character, not once.
Holy fuck that was hilarious, especially at 30:00 when we clicks the page and there is a scam, then 3 minutes later he just scans the files on the system and calls them viruses, then types in "your computer i9s at risk.." Edited: Oh my god, what a good conversation, this is amazing. This is so cool, I didn't expect this. Opened my eyes a bit more on these sort of people.
