As someone who went to a school that was in the top 3 for meteorology,

The only time I witnessed this first hand is when it missed the transformer in front of my house, and struck the hose & power line the next pole over. The downed power line then proceeded to burn a hole through concrete which is about 3"*3" wide and maybe 2" deep, and remains there to this day. The worst part, I never got to make pizza for myself that day.
I would probably be freaking out to. I absolutely love this type of weather.

Thundersnows are pretty rare, I only experienced one or two in my whole life

I was in a thundersnow once. It was awesome. I remember it so vividly because the lightning was, for some reason, bright pink.
