Aw yeah this makes me want to buy a PS3. I loved the Ace Combat games when I was a kid, and I also liked Ace Combat 6. The game was in an open beta for awhile no? Did anyone here play? Is it good?
I hope to see an Ace Combat 7 someday.
oh man I can't wait. I picked up a PS3 just for this game.
Pray to god Namco's recent F2P trends don't shit on this like it did Tales of Phantasia and Soul Calibur.
The music still gives me chills

Yeah I was thinking about it considering my xbox died long ago, I want to play MGS4, and I would like a blu-ray player.

You should definitely play the rest. 4 to 0 are really fucking good.
I'm ridiculously hyped for this game, I fucking love Ace Combat. If they don't fuck up the F2P model then this could be a really good reboot of the series.

Am I the only person who really enjoyed 6?

I'm referring to the game. Paying $20 just to play the six campaign missions they have is just one of the many things that seems to have gone wrong in this f2p. If you don't want to put up that kind of money, it's okay. It'll just cost you 200000 credits every time you want to give a mission a shot. Hopefully it'll get better, but namco is making it really hard to play without putting in cash.

The whole point of the game is to reboot the series after Assault Horizon bombed so hard. They can't really do that without, you know, seeing if people are willing to pay money for it.
I've never once played an Ace Combat game, but this looks seriously fun and I might pick it up.
Ace Combat 6 was my first one. And I fucking loved that game.
That remastered music form the invincible fleet mission sent a chill down my spine
I've never played an Ace Combat game but if I did I want to play this one because I still remember the trailer and it always gives me chills even if it's cheesy sometimes.

Ace combat being cheesie is what makes ace combat, ace combat. The silly plots, silly bosses and enemies, silly comrades and over dramatic voice acting and story elements is what makes the game so great. That coupled with the fantastic gameplay really makes for an extremely enjoyable game.
And thats why the most recent ace combat wasn't that great. The story was far too realistic and the characters weren't overplayed enough. I want to fight a flying aircraft carrier while my teammates spout off one liners that don't make sense, not have a on-rails dogfight through a city.
ace combat 6 was a lot of fun at least. dont like those new locked in dogfight things they do now.
ace combat assault horizen is a bad game

It was alright
The story and voice acting were so fucking dumb when 4,5 and zero's was so exhilarating
If you're also impatient you can make a japan PSN account and download the whole game right now, just released today in japan.
I hope the music for Infinity is as good as 5's soundtrack.

Yeah Ace Combat 6 was more cheese-y with its story line, but it was still pretty good. Too bad you didn't take the fight to their country.
Also it's as if you've never seen a AC trailer:

Ace Combat 5 is definitely my favorite, especially the narrative throughout the entire game.
So I went ahead and made a japan PSN account to download the game. Turns out after you download it you can sign back in with your USA psn and still play. Just some first impressions but the game seems pretty promising. It isn't looking to bleed your wallet out at every corner.
You can do loads of research by completing missions and doing challenges. When the research bar completes you spend your credits which you also earn in missions and challenges to unlock them. Basically over time people will specialize in different areas and weapons.
The catch is to get all these things you require sortie fuel to play anything. People playing at launch can claim 10 extra sortie fuel on top of the 3 that's already given which is more than enough the complete the campaign which is 8 missions if you're just looking for something to kill the afternoon with you'll be happy. You can also earn fuel by doing other challenges like playing a mission with a friend etc.
Now I wish I could get a quote on the price of fuel but at the moment I can't see what it will be because the USA PSN store isn't loaded with Infinity stuff yet. If its pretty cheap I could see my self playing this frequently now and then.
How long does the fuel take to recharge? Because if anything, it just makes you hunger for more since it plays so well. The free to play nature is going to work against it, i think.
I wouldn't mind spending £10 or so for unlimited playtime, online and the campaign. That would be ideal, but as it stands i really disagree with the fuel system.
About 3 hours per fuel charge I think to a maximum of 3
You can also buy a campaign pass, can't see how much that is yet so I don't know
One thing that pissed me off is that after the second mission you have to spend credits to unlock the next campaign mission which is 200k credits. Which is a lot. Airplanes cost around 50k or so. The pass bypasses this
Its a real shame, the game is loads of fun and is pretty addicting but I'm gonna hit a dry spell when I run out of stocked fuel.
The sense of progression the game gives plus it has the best AI of the series which makes for some challenging opponents is what makes it fun.
Considering though that this game just hands out fuel left and right I don't think the cost of it is gonna be very high. I've randomly just gotten fuel from crates after I finished a sortie.
The sci-fi elements of this game freak me out.
Giant death lasers from out of nowhere along with taking out a giant satellite spooks me

It's one of the cool things that make Ace Combat great.
