I was actually surprised by the storm trooper gag.
You know, if they stuck a vibration motor in the handle, they'd have a lore-correct vibroblade.
These guys definitely have to be Star Wars fans, plus I wish they could've colored the blade red just for cool factor. [editline]11th August 2014[/editline]
You know, if they stuck a vibration motor in the handle, they'd have a lore-correct vibroblade.
A x100 cooler virbroblade.
You know, if they stuck a vibration motor in the handle, they'd have a lore-correct vibroblade.
And a very dangerous dildo.
stupid baka gaijin knows nothing of glorious nippon steel
Looks cheap
one shot every time they say "traditional" or "traditional japanese"
damn they sliced that spaghetti good [t]http://i.imgur.com/a7jDFR0.png[/t] a true display of craftsmanship
So they made a katana.
aren't you supposed to fold the blade over a shit ton of times and smelt it together?
They could have at least tempered the blade blue or even black to fit with the whole lightsaber thing.
I don't like Reforged nearly as much as the normal Man at Arms, This sword is interesting, basically a vibroblade.
You know, if they stuck a vibration motor in the handle, they'd have a lore-correct vibroblade.
I'd think vibroblades would be more effective with a crazy motor that only affects the blade, at whatever ultra-high frequency causes it to basically peel things apart at the microscopic level as it carves into stuff. You put a normal motor inside the handle and your hands are just going to be numb in a few minutes
aren't you supposed to fold the blade over a shit ton of times and smelt it together?
Wasn't the reason for Japanese sword smiths doing that is because the metal they had was shit?
Wasn't the reason for Japanese sword smiths doing that is because the metal they had was shit?
Exactly, it was insanely low quality steel and even after folding it so many times, it was still weak and wasn't ever used in direct combat except in an emergency, especially against armored foes. It's also the reason why, if i remember right, so correct me if i don't, that Samurai technique uses more quick wrist motions for a quick slash rather than a solid chop, so they wouldn't break the blade. I think.

I think.
the swords were very much slashing weapons, though I couldn't tell you if that was a fighting preference or became a standard out of necessity. They were crazy sharp not because you needed to chop, but to run a clean cut as you run it along a surface, and they did that VERY well. If you were up against armor, you'd be better off piercing with a straight-on stab, ideally coming upward to slide under the plates when accessible most chopping weapons you'd see more in medieval europe were very dull, because the raw weight and force was all you needed. Focus that on a thin line instead of a broad area and you've got a LOT of power coming down onto that spot, making it easier to break armor, bones, or otherwise tear something up hard
The katana was more a weapon for one on one duels where neither guy was wearing armour. Or for cutting down peasants while raiding a town. The Naginata and spear were the true grorious nippon steel death machines.
stupid baka gaijin knows nothing of glorious nippon steel
this is 70% of the youtube comments

It still looks pretty neat, even if it doesn't sheathe the blade in a coat of searing plasma for authenticity's sake. We're still centuries away from those kinds of energy blades anyway, and even if we were to make a fully-functioning lightsabre before the end of this century, the military doesn't swordfight anymore, though they'd probably make use of some sort of plasma tomahawk or laser knife for last-ditch energy-based CQC.
I hate these combo weapons reforged are making, let's go back to the original Man at Arms instead of this

If they have the technology to make shit like laser swords or high frequency blades, wouldn't they have already made something like high frequency bullets or laser guns? Especially since technology advances current warfare, which in modern times is guns or long range missiles.
When he stabbed the barrel, was he holding the fucking blade? Did he slice through his hand or something?
When he stabbed the barrel, was he holding the fucking blade? It's a real shame they didn't temper the sword to be red, like how they tempered the minecraft sword and Bilbo's Sting to be blue. [editline]11th August 2014[/editline] I dunno if you can even temper stuff red, anyone here a blacksmith?

Tempering colors usually go like this - black, brownish, gold, orange, KINDA red, blue, light blue. The reason why I say KINDA red is because it's a very fine point between the orange and blue so typically turns out a weird purplish.
One of the most disappointing things I've seen as far as what my expectations were as far as these kinds of videos go.
aren't you supposed to fold the blade over a shit ton of times and smelt it together?
It was normal for most to be folded twice to be good. However, an amazing or even legendary blade would have six or even seven folds using 3 different types of steel. Hard, medium, and soft. The hard steel makes the core where then you would fold over medium steel, and finally you fold in the soft steel to create the cutting blade and the beautiful, polished finish. If any of you have ever played Chrono Trigger, you'll remember the name Masamune really well, it was the frogs sword. Masamune was actually one of the most legendary traditional swords smiths of all time in Japan. In fact, there's is a sword known as the Honjo Masamune that was passed down from each Shogun for hundreds of years. After World War II a general took it and then it went missing. Nobody knows where the hell it went, but it's basically the holy grail of Katanas at this point.

i happen to be an expert on Japanese blades, I own 5.
