Why does nintendo never use competing hardware that can match current gen?
Why does nintendo never use competing hardware that can match current gen?
Because it's what made them successful in the beginning.
Why does nintendo never use competing hardware that can match current gen?
Because they haven't been in the red in over 50 years unlike Microsoft and Sony.
Because they haven't been in the red in over 50 years unlike Microsoft and Sony.
Nintendo just posted their first profit in 4 years and Microsoft made about 60X their profit last year, I think you have this very backwards. Just their Xbox division, it was closer to 2X than 60X, but I'm not sure if you meant to say "Xbox" and you said Microsoft so I'll just leave both. That's not to say one or the other is a better company but Microsoft is clearly making way more money than Nintendo
Did they reveal official specs to journalists or is this the "my dad works at Nintendo" leaks again?
Did they reveal official specs to journalists or is this the "my dad works at Nintendo" leaks again?
The latter. Should be noted that DigitalFoundry/EuroGamer was the first major gaming publication to leak the PS-neo and its specs iirc, so this might have some weight to it.

Nintendo has millions of left over money after the Wii
The latter. Regardless, this isn't as concrete as the PSNEO (less details, fewer rumblings on showfloors), but enough to have merit. Also, anyone expecting Nintendo to have a console on par with PS4/XB1 is fooling themselves- there cannot be three hardcore mainstream consoles on the market, there has barely been room for one! Nintendo has to diversify, and having it be cheaper and a hybrid of handheld AND console in one are some of those ways. I'm very excited in seeing what comes from this.
just because they aren't making profit doesn't mean they are in the red. Nintendo has millions of left over money after the Wii
dude come on, microsoft has nearly 9 times what nintendo has banked, why are you doing this to yourself
Tbh Microsoft is also arguably the biggest computer company in the world, its like comparing Valves steam profits to CDPRs GOG profits, Sony also produces a ton of shit outside of consoles. I think Nintendo is really the only big console company that really only does consoles and games.
dude come on, microsoft has nearly 9 times what nintendo has banked, why are you doing this to yourself
Microsoft as a whole has much more, but the Xbox division actually operates at loss or near loss (i forget which), and has its entire life. 360 had the potential to make money, but then the red ring error hit and all that money went down the drain going to replacements. A better example would be Sony, as their Playstation divison makes the most money, but I'm pretty sure the Wii Warchest is still bigger. I'd have to do more research, though.
Why does nintendo never use competing hardware that can match current gen?
1. cheap 2. Current gen hardware is impossible to fit in a small form factor that they are wanting to achieve with the NX (small enough to act as a portable) 3. Nintendo games aren't really performance intensive in a serious way. The X1 can handle 4K output just fine and gets pretty alright performance for last generation games. The only thing I can imagine that pushes hardware to the limit would be the new Zelda, which runs fine in a Wii U, which is technically lower spec than an X1 4. This is for the main console itself - for we all know, the dock that plugs into the TV might add additional processing power (likely only in the form of rendering it to 1080/4K though). Essentially, what you are getting here is a 3DS-like console/tablet with the power of a beefy 360. It just happens to also plug into your TV.
Why does nintendo never use competing hardware that can match current gen?
Nintendo isn't trying to compete with them. They're trying to find their own niche. Sony and Microsoft are two predatory cats that both feed on antelopes and are competing over them. Nintendo is like a hawk feeding on ducks and other fatty birds. It would be a bad idea for Nintendo to start going after the playstation/xbox audience because then they would have to compete with two established apex predators when microsoft and sony have left the ducks and chickens almost untouched

I mean Nintendo went four years of straight losing money at one point, Microsoft lost some money at Xbone launch then started making money again, it's all over the map.
Why does nintendo never use competing hardware that can match current gen?
Because they did that twice in a row, they were massive failures, then they said "fuck it" and made a cheaper console by far than the others and it trounced the other two. That's why.
So you think Sony and Microsoft will copy Nintendo again if this takes off? Like they did with the Wii? :v:
So you think Sony and Microsoft will copy Nintendo again if this takes off? Like they did with the Wii? :v:
They probably have their hands full with shit like VR, plus both aren't really in the handheld market anymore.
can i put a sim card in it
Nintendo loses again
It's always about who "won" the generation, isn't it? But with the Wii (which did 'win'), it was obvious that they gave up trying to directly compete with the PS3 and 360 in terms of tech, and even though the Wii U upped the ante and surpassed them both just barely, the PS4 and XBO quickly outpaced it a year later with ease. If I got hit with something like that i'd stop trying to compete directly too.
Plus the only real reason why they'd want to compete hardware wise would be for more third party support. Other than that they don't really need that extra power for their IPs, most of them have gotten to the point where they simply don't need that much anymore. (Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Donkey Kong, etc) [editline]27th July 2016[/editline] Nintendo has something that Sony and Microsoft simply can't compete with, and that's their big library of well known exclusive IPs. You could argue Nintendo abuses that and that's why they don't compete with hardware, but imo it's possibly the best business decision they can make nowadays. Now you might ask "well why don't they just compete with both", and that's where I don't fucking know.

Your also forgetting about the 3DS which is hugely popular. And duh we're not talking about all of Microsoft and Sony we're talking about their game division
Several months ago media was talking about a rumor that NX will be using "industry leading chips" or something like that. So it would make sense if devkits are currently using Tegra X1, but the final product will be using new Tegra X2. May explain why they didn't reveal anything yet, so close to release.
Even if the hardware is cheaper, it still wont sell the console, Nintendo is going to have to get off their high-horse and open up more 3rd party development to put more value into the console than their run of the mill IPs.

There's never been more dire need for the bad reading rating v:v:v I'm not forgetting about anything by the way, I was comparing just the Xbox division of Microsoft to all of Nintendo, not just their Wii U profits. More bad reading. Why you're still shitposting about this, I have no idea. Definitely really interested in seeing what the NX really is
Even if the hardware is cheaper, it still wont sell the console, Nintendo is going to have to get off their high-horse and open up more 3rd party development to put more value into the console than their run of the mill IPs.
Even though I haven't had a Nintendo console in quite a while, Pokemon Go has really dragged me in. I think the key is not just new IPs, but innovating in the ones they have as well. <#> new Pokemon a year only really interested me vaguely from gen 1 to 3, but a whole new way to play was definitely something that grabbed a lot of people.

Nintendo only gave them the greenlight because of using the IP's assets. Nintendo themselves probably wouldn't have even attempted the idea for years if ever, hell they pioneered AR tech with the 3DS and could've attempted their own Pokemon GO a year or two if they really innovated and broke their mould/rut. To be fair, Nintendo seems to be innovating with the new LoZ as far as open world gameplay to mix things up, but all in all they've been mostly conservative with their IPs. Or even invent new IPs, Splatoon worked pretty well in their favor.
i hope that the nx gets the activision's, ea's and ubi's games for a while pls dont fuck up nintendo
So you think Sony and Microsoft will copy Nintendo again if this takes off? Like they did with the Wii? :v:
It's only a matter of time before Sony launches another handheld device marketed off of disappointment and abandons it a couple years later.
