Hi !
My name is Mark and I'm one of the developers working on Rise of the Badlands. We're a small international dev team ( namely Germans, Russians, Americans ) who previously worked on rather big titles such as Heroes of Might and Magic 5, Crysis franchise and God of War.
We came together while working on a non commercial mod of the WarZ/Infestation: Survivor Stories. We wanted to explore the possibility to turn the WarZ game into something completely different - a huge open world shooter with real time day night cycle, and never-ending battles for territorial control.
We created a small prototype and then tried to reach out to OP Productions LLC - the publisher of the WarZ in order to get their approval to release this mod for free. Soon we found that OP Productions doesn't own the technology or the engine and we had to talk to Arktos Entertainment - the creators of the engine. We did and soon enough we got a proposal from them to turn our mod into a standalone title. We negotiated terms that gave us full creative control and we went to work.
We want to say thank you to all guys at OP Productions LLC, to the awesome Artemis Knives and to the great tech team at Arktos for helping us to get where we're right now!
The game will be published under a new brand - Free Reign Entertainment which is basically a collective brand for three indie teams who are working on three completely different projects. I can't tell you about them for now unfortunately.
So it's like a shitty version of the already terrible Wasteland missions on ArmA?
i think its important to note that its a different group of guys making this, not the warz team
so it might actually be decent
Honestly the only thing I can see this doing better than wasteland is the base-building, but that looks abuseable as fuck.
From their website
What's the full release going to be like? ROTB is a game about territorial control. Players will join a server and pick one of the two available factions. Each of the 27 hot zones are capturable points that your faction can control and defend to help your team get the most income for the best goodies from the vendors. Players can grab a vehicle and load their friends in and go and siege enemy controlled territories. Do your best to battle for control of the badlands! Those who control the badlands, control all the income and all the goodies
seems more like planetside to me than wasteland
Can this company literally come out with ANYTHING ORIGINAL.
Color me interested.
It looks a lot more fluid than DayZ. Maybe this isn't a popular opinion but I don't think I've ever seen a DayZ gameplay video that didn't seem like a hassle to play.
putting on weapon mods looks exactly like crysis

Once you play games like arma2/3, dayz, red orchestra then you understand that some part of the "struggle" is made to give the gunplay weight. I can't play games like battlefield or shooters like in the OP anymore because everything feels paperweight light, it looks and feels like shit.

arma/dayz have some of the worst engines ever to play games on, but it grows on you.
it's kinda like flying in GTA vs. a flight simulator. both are fun in their own rights.

That's because DayZ/Arma is janky as hell, pretty much any game (WarZ included) has better movement. You can't even rely on your hot-keys to pull out items/weapons in DayZ, you have to go to your inventory screen and drag them into your hands.
