I've often thought about making a Let's Play. Being in college though, I didn't really have much time to do a devoted, 1 per day thing like some of the other LP channels. And to top it off, I didn't want to do a video on something that has been done (Or possibly over-done) before like Amnesia. So, I decided to install Rayman 2: The Great Escape and start with that one. It's a great game made roughly 14 years ago from Ubisoft with Action / Platformer-styled gameplay. There are a few other LPs of this game, but some are not done in english, and I found others annoying. The soundtrack is memorable, and the game itself is just fun in general.

This is the first LP I've done, and I've been told that Facepunch is rather picky about LPs, but just let me know whether it's a good start, if you'd continue watching it or not, suggestions to improve it, etc. Hope it's not too bad to watch.
My fucking childhood...
Yesterday I brought my copy of Rayman Revolution to get its second surface polishing.
If it doesn't work I'll probably have to hunt down a copy in better shape (unlikely) or just buy it for PC at GoG.
It seems like this isn't such a bad LP for now, so I recorded a second level.

Episode 2 Part 2
I think I failed at explaining what types of games I don't like....
Hopefully it's an enjoyable watch again.
Is anyone watching these, or am I recording to a non-existant audience? I would like to know whether I should continue or not.
If it's not interesting, what could I do to improve?
I'm watching it
The face-cam feels unnecessary, but I like the nostalgia.
I dunno, feels pretty boring. You sound very unenthusiastic; not saying you need to be like every other LPer ever and scream at the top of your lungs but I get the impression that you're very bored. This isn't helped by your very stern facial expression, as such it would probably be a good idea to take out the face-cam.
As someone who never played this, I don't have nostalgia to fall back on so I'd need more than the game alone to get me invested. You'll know you've done a good job when more people will watch the Let's Play for the person playing rather than the game.
Ah, I do get a little too focused, and I would forget to smile, or show emotion at all.
As I mentioned in the second episode, I'm not used to talking or doing anything else when playing, so I hope to improve and make it an enjoyable thing to watch. I'll most likely do another episode later today. I am having a lot of fun playing the game again, actually.

Guess I'm not getting that episode done tonight. Got caught up in other things, including going to town for food so I can survive another week.
Damn you, i have the rayman collection and i was going to do a lets play of it ):

3rd level. Much shorter this time, and I changed the facecam a bit. Does this work better than before? Also, I think I mixed the audio a bit better this time around. I found out I can set the resolution on the webcam higher... Will be fixed on the next video.

fixed bad preview images... Opinions on the facecam change? Better audio this time around?

I was starting to think about doing a Rayman 3 LP.
I was starting to think about doing a Rayman 3 LP.
Go for it. I was thinking of doing a different series after this one. Maybe run an emulator and go for Sonic Adventure, or maybe go with a more modern game and play Brutal Legend.
Rayman 3 is where it's at yo!
I might make a let's play of the third one actually.

Now the question is: Where the heck is my CD for R3?
And even if I can find it; will it work?
I know that Rayman 2 has some 64-bit converters available, but I'm doubtful that I can find it.
But I doubt that we still have it around somewhere :( Not to mention the good old massive case that it came with.
Still have the user manual and map left.
I guess I'll just have to buy R3 via Good Old Games.
I'll be leaving for home later on, so next video won't be until after the weekend. But I will grab my Rayman 2 case and manual to show off as proof that I actually do have it.
You look a bit like Val Kilmer
Unless of course I decide to record the TV screen with a videocamera.

Please don't, that ruins the quality.
Get it on gog, this game still feels great and is absolutely worth it.
Done and done!
Got myself The Great Escape and Hoodlum Havoc on GoG.
Even though I have Rayman 3 and Rayman Revolution on PS2.
But my justification for Rayman 2 is good: I had to take my copy for a rebuffing last Saturday and if that doesn't work I can't say that I'm too certain that I'll find another copy of it.
Back when I was working at a gamestore I had to take down one copy of R2R because it had such a large crack in the middle.
Arrrgh!
I did a recording.
Turns out that Afterburners video recorder mutes out the game sounds when you are talking, so I've gotta look into that.
And for some reason it doesn't want to work with my 360 gamepad even though it says on GOG's site that it has native support for the 360 controller.

Might have found a solution. Gonna try it tomorrow.

quite enjoying this but i don't believe the face cam is necessary at all really, its just you sitting there

Don't all face cams do that? I don't really have a way to get it closer to my face yet unless I crop the rest out... I could just do a voice over only, but it wasn't really my intention for let's plays. I would like to keep the face cam on, but keep it enjoyable to have it on.
I'll take suggestions for things I could do with the face cam.

maybe you could set it up in a way so it doesn't cover up the game but it's still there, like on a sidebar or something. I don't see why you need it though.

I felt it was something I should have on there from watching other people such as Markiplier / Pewdiepie / Tobygames / CaptainSparklez / SyndicateProject / etc.

The facecam is used to show the player's reactions, but only use it if you think the footage of your face will actually make the video more entertaining. It may work with horror games, or games with shocking plot twists, where the reactions can sometimes be funny, but I don't really see a need to use it in a Rayman lp.

Yeah... I see your point. I was hoping to get better at responding / reacting more with the third video compared to the first ones. Was I? Or is it about the same?
Apologies for the absence. The next video is being encoded, and then I still have to upload it to Youtube.
I was away for Thanksgiving (Canadians get it sooner)

And there we go.
This is still something enjoyable to watch, right?
No?
Not wanting to be an attention seeker, but it would be nice if I had some responses to let me know whether people are keeping up or not.
Still doing this.
Decided to forgo the usual facecam and stick with mic only based on feedback I got from a few sources. This level is my personal favourite mainly because of the second half of the level. I just really liked the contrast between the calm ocean-like opening and the faster-paced action of the slide and boss battle at the end. And I especially like the happy music when you do the orb puzzle.
Hope you enjoyed this video, and as always, Have fun~
