this makes me feel uncomfortable because I think of those one fireworks that aren't at all flashy but just one small light with a massive amount of sound and force to them, the ones that shake your insides? I couldn't imagine a factory of those going off.

Well it was more a tragedy than awesome because it basically blew up a whole part of the town.
But in 2004 a massive fireworks factory in jutland caught on fire, a bunch of firefighters died and thousands were evacuated.

I think you're referring to salute shells, which use only flash powder instead of black powder for the bursting charge and those ones are more dangerous than the normal ones because of how more powerful flash powder can be.
