Indie games do not show up in the New Releases or Most Popular lists on the “Games Marketplace -> Featured” or “Games Marketplace -> Games” pages. All other types of content do. In the dashboard video, Major Nelson says “all” games marketplace content can be found here. This is currently not true. Indie games do not show up in the “Genre” or “Titles A-Z” lists on the “Games Marketplace -> Games” page. It is no longer possible to browse indie games by genre at all. There are two indie game “sections”. One is only visible when you let the ad cycle on “Games Marketplace -> Games”. This one contains the Kotaku’s Favorites list, the Contest Finalists list, a New Releases-style list with 100 entries and a link to the entire indie catalog sorted by Top Downloaded. The other section, accessible through “Games Marketplace -> Games -> Game type” just has the entire catalog in one list, sorted by release date. This is confusing.
dear god
They just keep optimizing the dashboard for the Kinect but it just keeps screwing over everyone that doesn't want to waste their money on it. It should be toggle-able between this new one and the classic 360 dash.
Or you could get them for like £0.50 on PC
That's because everything is just crammed with advertising now
I wish they would make the blades, NXE and this all an option in settings
Microsoft doesn't give a shit about Indie Game Developers. They hide their games, they barely support the developers at all.
Total Miner, Castle Miner and Fortress Craft? Hmm, sounds familiar.
Total Miner, Castle Miner and Fortress Craft? Hmm, sounds familiar.
Must have stolen the idea from "Crafty miner"
Man, I love paying 60$ a year to be advertised to. 3 out of the 5 tiles on the main dashboard are advertisements now. you guys remember the blades, where one out of like 12 useful buttons was an advertisement? can we go back to that please?
I paid $60 for a full year and all I got were advertisements shoved down my throat. It's like raising the price by $10 isn't enough for Microsoft. I don't care about ESPN, Facebook, Twitter, etc. I just want to play video games, god damn it. I would gladly pay $30-40 a year to play video games online, but not have every other shit shoved in our faces.
My thoughts exactly. Xbox Live has become such bullshit now. I just stopped paying for it; it's not worth it anymore. I also set my 360 to auto-start whatever game was in the drive because I got sick of looking at that piece of shit NXE dashboard update covered in ads. This new one just looks even worse.
There is literally no reason to put your indie game on Xbox when you have Steam. No one can find it hidden under all of the crap and it isn't advertised of the service. People who have released indie games on both steam and Xbox will tell you that their sales on Steam are better anyways.

You'll get top sales then.
You mean right here? Oh wait..

If you don't want to see the features you can use, like facebook, twitter, netflix, espn, last.fm, etc, then just put a game in the disc tray and stop whining, because steam is just as bad, not sure about PSN though.
What was wrong with this?
it was annoying and looked pretty bad. i like that you can now just press the xbox button and get access to all the settings and stuff
xbox live should just be cheaper in general
Not sure on whether I should stay PC only or buy a console when the next generation comes out. On the one hand I'll have more money to continue upgrading my PC but on the other hand I'll miss out on some of the amazing exclusive titles that come out for the consoles. As it seems right now because of the crap that Microsoft and Sony have been pulling I'm kind of leaning towards the former.
Every time I start my xbox up, I get bombarded with adverts for the latest games that are out. When I open up steam, I instantly go to a list of the games I own as if to say "Which game would you like to play, sir?" With Xbox, it's just like "HEY JUST A MINUTE OF YOUR TIME LOOK AT ALL OUR FANTASTIC GAMES ON SALE!"
you're just being incredibly dramatic. the same ads on steam are also on xbox live. it definitely doesn't talk to you
No shit it doesn't literally talk to me, that's why I used a simile.
yeah you used a simile in the same way i once used a simile when i said "THE PLANE CRASHED AND KILLED EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THE PLANE" that one time there was 15 seconds of slight turbulence before we landed safely.
Why were there like 4 henti games in the indie games section? [editline]8th December 2011[/editline]
you're just being incredibly dramatic. the same ads on steam are also on xbox live. it definitely doesn't talk to you
Well its more annoying. With steam I only see the adverts if I go to store. I would think that since i'm paying for live (unlike steam or playstation) I would see less advertisements not more.
You mean right here? Oh wait..
Good job actually watching the video.
For some reason, where I live I'm not allowed to buy Indie games. There isent, and never was, an indie section for me.
Xbox is a game console, there really isn't much need to spend time in the dashboard anyways. It's not like ads pop-up in loading screens for games. Steam is a store, XBL Marketplace is a store.

But still, way too high for what it is, and it's obvious.

Why are they the only ones that do that even though i'm paying them money? [editline]8th December 2011[/editline]
Jesus Christ, 60$ for a year That's pretty low to be honest. Thats a full game a year and if you had the xbox for 5 years thats 300$, the price of a new console.
PSN isn't like this at all, someone posted previously saying that they didn't know what it was like. Enter the PSN Marketplace, the entire left panel is dedicated to JUST types of games/downloads/add-ons, and then there's a few sectioned panes on the right with different announcements for new content and such. I don't think there's a single "ad" per se. [editline]8th December 2011[/editline] Maybe one or two, but not as many as I just saw in that video.
You mean right here? Oh wait..
On top of that it seems like he paused as it showed up, like he noticed it and decided to ignore it.
I don't understand why they felt like this was an update that needed to happen. I mean first off, because browsing sections is no longer a linear left-right path and the panel selected is only being highlighted by 1x pixel which makes this more difficult. It's also a slap to the face to have everything you own become a tinier icon, (seriously, I feel sorry for those who play on tv's and not desktop monitors) while adverts are the center of attention. The friends system is more complicated, the new standard background is grey and depressing, and overall it's just more cluttered and ugly.
