This thing's ran for a good few years (ever since 2007 to be precise). You can control how lit up the tree is, and you can send messages that will appear on the LED sign.
The tags that can be used with the sign are as follows:
[R] for red text
[G] for green text
[Y] for yellow text
[R1] for rainbow text
[T] for current time (PST)
Just saw a facepunch shout out
Oh yeah, and there's light shows that you can trigger (if you donate).
There's also prescheduled shows too.
