I wish the next generation of HMD would be out and we could compare how this card runs with the higher resolution
Assembled a GTX 1080 + R7 1700X system for a friend of mine's girlfriend a couple of days ago. I then watched her play Witcher 3 @ 60FPS on their 60" 4K TV, probably the most breath taking gaming-related things I've ever seen

I stopped at a mates before head to a house party, and whilst waiting for him to get ready he just sat me in front of his 1080 powered rig.
Even at 1440p TW3 looks fucking beautiful on max settings. My 970 is nice and all, but damn that made me want a 1080. I just can't justify the price still.

In the same boat, was taking a look at getting the 1080 but the 500+ euro benchmark is a bit too much. Still though, its nice to see that 4K 60 FPS is currently manageable.
